Special Town Board Meeting
October 25 , 2011
Present : Supervisor Roxanne Marino ; Councilpersons David Kerness and Kevin Romer; Deputy
Supervisor Sue Poelvoorde; Town Clerk Marsha L. Georgia; Attorney Mariette Geldenhuys .
Absent : Councilpersons Elizabeth Thomas and Lucia Tyler
Supervisor Marino called to meeting to order at 7 : 15 p . m .
Deputy Supervisor Sue Poelvoorde discussed the Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway (CLSB) request
for funding assistance by the communities along the Byway for a Geocache Trail . The idea
behind the trail is to drive more traffic to the Byway and increase tourism dollars to local
businesses . The CLSB is requesting a $ 500 contribution from the Town of Ulysses .
Ms . Marino moved, seconded by Mr. Kerness the following :
BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Ulysses alter the 2012 budget to
make a new expenditure line of $ 500 to include the Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway
Geocache Trail .
FURTHER RESOLVE that this expense be funded from the contingency account being
reduced by $ 500 .

Ms . Marino said that if anyone had any additional changes to the budget to get them to her as
soon as possible because the Board has scheduled a meeting on November 3rd to vote on the
budget.
Ms . Marino reported on her meeting with the employees on October 17, 2011 , to listen to their
concerns about raises and health insurance contributions, a summary of which she also shared
with the Board in an email . One of the concerns the employees have is that they feel like they
will be working for less pay in 2012 than in 2011 with the change in the cost for both the health
insurance and the dental/vision insurance while only getting the 1 % raise. Ms. Marino sent
another email today outlining a new proposal she worked out that would increase the raises and
decrease the percent contribution to health insurance . Ms . Marino explained this proposal to the
Board.
No decisions were made on this new proposal .
Ms. Marino moved, seconded by Mr. Romer the following :
BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Ulysses adjourn to Executive
Session to discuss a legal matter with Attorney Geldenhuys.

Ms . Marino moved, seconded by Mr. Kerness the following :
BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Ulysses engage the firm
of Whiteman, Osterman & Hanna LLP to prepare an amicus brief for submission in Anschutz
Exploration Corporation vs Town of Dryden lawsuit, working in cooperation and consultation
with the Town of Ulysses ' s attorney. The Board approves payment of a retainer of $ 1 , 000 and
hourly fees in excess of that amount as needed to prepare and submit the brief

Hearing no further business Mr. Kerness moved, seconded by Mr. Romer to adjourn the special
meeting. Unanimously approved ; meeting adjourned at 8 : 30 p .m.
