HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-06-24 - CPC Meeting Minutes Town of Ulysses Comprehensive Plan Committee June 24, 2008 Approved August 26, 2008 Present : Sue Poelvoorde- Chair, Bob Brown, Deirdre Cunningham, Heather Filiberto, Rod Hawkes, Sue Ritter, John Wertis, David Tyler, Roxanne Marino, Elizabeth Thomas, Bob Weatherby. Ms . Poelvoorde called the meeting to order at 7 : 06 p . m . She stated that the meetings agenda will focus on the public meeting that will be taking place on July 10, 2008 . The Town Board does not seem to be willing to set money aside for mailings to publicize the public meeting. It would require : 39 .4 cents per piece to have letters printed (8 . 5 x 11 , folded in half, 1800 to be mailed) ; about $700 total . For postcards it is 14 cents per unit; about $ 835 total. To print postcards at Staples and then put labels on with committee labor will not save any money. Ms . Marino stated that she wants the meeting to be publicized in order to increase participation. She would be willing to donate printing. The problem seems to be the Town Board. However, Ms . Filiberto and Mr. Tyler expressed the opinion that the publicity would do very little good. They expect that attendance will be low due to the time of year; many folks are on vacation in July. Ms . Filiberto proposed that email and other free options be utilized as an alternative to mailings . The committee will put notices in the media including the Trumansburg Freepress, Tri-Village Pennysaver, Tompkins Weekly, Ithaca Journal and radio stations . The committee agreed that posters should be created . Ms . Filiberto suggested creating handbills to be left around businesses in Town. She is willing to hand them out on the TCAT route to Ithaca. Posters will be placed around the Town as well . The committee discussed locations and came up with the following list : Laundrymat, Falls Tavern, Tompkins Trust Company, Shur Save, Kinney's, Save-a Lot, Jacksonville and Trumansburg post offices, Jacksonville gas station, Paradise Cafe, Nameste (day care) , Dollar Store, Farmers Market (fliers), Town Hall, Village Hall, Millspaughs, Rongo, Poorhouse, Firehouse, Juniper Manor, Tburg Family Health. Ms . Thomas noted that the committee should take advantage of the different listserves . She will take care of contacting the different groups including her news e-mail service, BDTEN, West Shore Homeowners Association. Ms . Marino and Ms . Poelvoorde will create and print the posters and handbills . Mr. Hawkes and Ms. Filiberto will coordinate getting the posters up around Town. Ms . Thomas will coordinate newspapers. Ms . Poelvoorde noted that the committee discussed adding members at the last meeting. Since then, Ms . Thomas has recommended Dierdre Cunningham be added to the committee to represent the Village of Trumansburg 's Comprehensive Plan process. Ms . Poelvoorde made the MOTION to add Ms . Cunningham to the Comprehensive Plan Committee. Mr. Hawkes seconded the MOTION. The vote on the MOTION was unanimous . The meeting was adjourned at 8 : 29 p .m . Respectfully submitted, Ben Carver Clerk 1
