HomeMy WebLinkAboutPWC Minutes 2015-01-20 TOWN OF ITHACA PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE January 20, 2015 9:00 a.m. Public Works Facility Board and Staff Present: Rod Howe, Jim Weber, Mike Smith, Rich DePaolo, Mike Solvig, Gene Redman 1. Approval of Minutes: Minutes from December 16, 2014 approved. 2. Member Comments / Concerns: None a. Modifications to Agenda – Mr. Weber added specific discussion of a backhoe to item #3 and Mr. Howe added discussion of specific agenda items for the February meeting to item #5. 3. Vehicle/Equipment Specifications and Standards Discussion: Mr. Howe brought up the request during the last Town Board meeting that bids and purchases for equipment for PWD be more transparent for Board members. Mr. DePaolo clarified that the concern was raised more so for features and/or attachments added onto equipment. He explained that it would be helpful to know the range of choices available, the reasons for the choices made, and monetary values. Discussion was held regarding the various processes used and standardization of the fleet and it was decided that PWC meetings are the appropriate setting for initial reporting of the information requested. Mr. Weber presented the additional option of a cooperative purchasing organization dedicated to serving government agencies. 4. Project Updates: Honness Lane – The bid specification is being prepared for pavement replacement. Marcy Court – The goal is to advertise the end of February for road reconstruction. Coddington Water Main Phase 2 – The bid specification is being prepared and easements are being identified. th Christopher Water Tank Demolition – Demolition will begin on January 26. Sprint is transferring their equipment. Sapsucker Water Tank Replacement – Documents are being prepared for submission of the Comptroller’s Report. Clarity Connect has been notified. 5. Confirm 2015 Meeting Dates and Times and Set February Agenda: Meeting dates were confirmed with the exception of the February meeting, which was th changed to February 24 due to conflicts in scheduling. Agenda items will include Complete Streets and the Forest Home S-curve and retaining wall.
