April 22, 2019, Ellis Hollow Community Center, 7:00pm
Present: Katie Quinn-Jacobs, Dana Magnuson, Christina Dravis, Tony Bretscher, Janice Bretscher
1. Borger Station Upgrade Update
a. Dominion has committed to installing an oxidation catalyst on Turbine #4
b. Dominion has agreed to decommission Turbine Units #2 and #3
i. Units will be stored in place
ii. Katie suggested we remain vigilant to ensure that Dominion does not
attempt to re-permit Units #2 and #3 by checking DEC website for permit
applications
c. Dominion has also agreed to make similar upgrades at other Compressor Stations
along the pipeline, thus benefiting other communities
d. Katie suggested that she and Dana organize a conference call or meeting with
Dominion to discuss the upgrades, and ask about the timeline for applying for
permits to do the upgrades
i. At the January, 2019 meeting with Dominion it was implied that permit
applications would be submitted by Dominion to the DEC in May, 2019
e. Organize a community meeting, together with Mothers Out Front, to inform the
community of all the good news about the upgrades once the permit applications
have been submitted
2. CERT program unanimously approved by Town Board on 4-18-19
a. Funding - Dana will email Alice Green to ask if Town Board will provide any funding
to set up the program
b. Establish CERT program as a nonprofit/tax exempt organization – Dana will also ask
Alice Green about the procedure for applying for those designations
c. Establish an email address for the CERT program – Christina will ask Ryan McHugh
for assistance with this
d. Establish a website for the CERT program – Christina will check in with Ryan
McHugh about this as well
e. Meet with local Fire Departments to introduce the CERT program, gain their support
and identify instructors for the Training Course as well as space to hold the
trainings
i. Discussed where to meet with Fire Chiefs – perhaps most convenient would
be before or after an Emergency Services Committee meeting – will check
on this possibility
ii. CERT power point will be modified for the presentation to the Fire Chiefs –
Janice and Tony
f. Begin advertising CERT to the community
i. Christina will have flyers and some CERT equipment on display at the Varna
Fire Dept. Recruitment Weekend, April 27-28
Next Town Board Meeting: May 16, 2019, 6:00pm
Next Safety and Preparedness Committee Meeting: June 24, 2019 at the Ellis Hollow Community
Center at 7:00pm
May meeting canceled as it falls on Memorial Day
