HomeMy WebLinkAboutZBA Minutes 1967-05-02 79 TOWN OF ITHACA ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS MINUTES MAY 29 1967 A special meeting of the Town of Ithaca Board of Zoning Appeals was held at the Town Offices , 108 East Green Street , Ithaca , New York at 7 : 40 P . M . on Tuesday , May 2 , 1967 . Members present of the Board : Acting Chairman Robert Powers , Loran Marion , David Powers , Roger Sovocool , Al Tilton , Zoning Officer Andy Soyring . Also present : James Belasco , President of Eastern Heights , Inc . and Manley Thaler , Attorney for Eastern Heights , Inc . This meeting was called at the suggestion of Mr . Thaler so that he could present Eastern Heights , Inc . request that the area between Snyder Hill Road and the Slaterville Road , from the existing R-15 zone on the east to the Town line not now zoned R- 15 , be changed from R-30 to R - 15 . Mr . Soyring read Section 80 of the Zoning Ordinance . Discussion ensued regarding the current status of the landu. in question and the surrounding area and their current use . It was mentioned that the property is not now being farmed because of its hillside nature and much of it is wooded . The open fields were pointed out on the aerial map . Mr . Robert Powers asked how the people who own the surrounding property feel about the requested change . Mr . Sovocool said that this would be brought out by a public hearing which would be held by the Town Board , Mr . Thaler then read excerpts from the Planning Board minutes taken April 18 , 1967 , paragraph 2 , as follows : " Upon motion by Mr . Vasse , it was moved that the Planning Board recommend to the Town Board that the following area of the Town of Ithaca be rezoned from R-30 to R-15 : That land east of the existing R -15 zone , approximately parallel with Pine Tree Road , to the Town line and bounded on the north by Snyder Hill Road and on the south by the R-15 zone parallel to Slaterville Road . The motion was seconded by Mr . Lacy and carried by unanimous vote . ft Mr . Sovocool suggested that the members of the Board of Zoning Appeals adopt the resolution of the Planning Board as above stated . After a lengthy discussion the Board of Zoning Appeals concurred with the recommendation of the Planning Board of the Town of Ithaca regarding the area above described . so Respectfully submitted , Patricia M .
