HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-07-12Dryden Ag Committee July 12, 2017 Dryden Ag Advisory Committee July 12, 2017 Members Present: Evan Carpenter (Chair), Kim LaMotte, Jeremy Sherman and Steve Foote Liaisons Present: Craig Schutt, Conservation Board Guests: Tyler and Stephanie Beck The meeting was called to order at 7:50PM. The Ag and Farmland Protection Plan: - The plan is getting long. There are a lot of statistics that could be consolidated onto a single page - for the sake of the plan length and to verify all the numbers are the same. - Definition of "homesteading" - Roads - Dryden is served by 4 state highways - 13, 38, 366 and 34B. - Page 5 - Key Findings - bullet one - "predominant land use in the northeastern part of Dryden" NOT northern since west Dryden has poor soils. - Pages 40-41 - why is it "for planning use only and not an official listing of land uses"? - Nursery greenhouse permitted? Where is the letter from Ag and Markets in response to Dryden zoning? - E. Carpenter offered a resolution to add the following recommendation to the Priority Actions/ Recommendations section of the plan: General Municipal Law, Town Law.. § 271. Planning board, creation, appointment 11. Appointment of agricultural member. Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter or of any general, special or local law or ordinance, a town board may, if an agricultural district created pursuant to section three hundred three of article twenty -five -AA of the agriculture and markets law exists wholly or partly within the boundaries of such town, include on the planning board one or more members each of whom derives ten thousand dollars or more annual gross income from agricultural pursuits in said town. As used in this subdivision, the term "agricultural pursuits" means the production of crops, livestock and livestock products, aquacultural products, and woodland products as defined in section three hundred one of the agriculture and markets law. K. LaMotte seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. - Page 50 - Ag Support Businesses - Lilley's Tack and Feed The Committee members agreed that the plan needs a lot more work. It still has too much information similar to the Lansing plan and is missing information that the Committee has requested in the past. Please see attached list of recommended changes from past Committee minutes and editorial recommendations. Dryden Ag Committee July 12, 2017 Review and approval of meeting minutes dated January 11, February 8, March 8, May 10 and June 14, 2017. S. Foote moved to approve the minutes as presented.
