Pamel moved to approve the minutes, K. Servoss seconded the motion and the minutes were unanimously approved. Program Reports: K. Bennett shared a flyer regarding the Community Conversation on Achieving Youth Results. This will be an interactive conversation and Ms. Bennett encouraged Commission members to participate. Please see attached flyer for further information. J. Jones Senior Fit has been a success so far. Town expenses are covered by the fees (the Town and the instructor split the fees via a percentage agreement). Ms. Jones and J. Sinicropi are discussing potential programs targeted at late teen to middle age (18 to 50ish). One suggestion was dance lessons, ballroom dancing. The Rec department is also trying to put together a game night at the elementary school. The idea is to have the gym open for basketball, etc., the cafeteria for “quiet” board games and the hallway for a movie. Fun Fit was a fail. Only 2 people signed up. Judy Saroka has approached Ms. Jones about doing a chalk art day in May. Program Monitoring: D. Pamel visited the Dryden Community Dinner. She estimated 75 attendees. The coordination was excellent, the servers were pleasant and folks were definitely appreciative. She also attended the Southworth Homestead Day. She estimated between 150-200 people attended. It was a mixed age group with “games” being provided by Vicki Wilkins. This event wasn’t as well coordinated as the Community Dinner but was also organized primarily by volunteers. The funding sources (including the Town of Dryden) were not mentioned nor did people know about them. The Commission discussed whether they should require an acknowledgment of the Town for grant recipients. Dryden Recreation and Youth Commission September 23, 2015 2 J. Sinicropi visited with Nikki Nease and discussed the youth employment programs. She has adjusted her approach this year and kept the training to those who were going to be hired. Unfortunately that means not all interested youth get a chance at the training but N. Nease doesn’t want to put kids through the training if she can’t offer them a job. CCE Funding: Some Commission members met with representatives from CCE to explore the potential options regarding the $10,000 increase that may or may not be coming from the County. J. Jones has put the money in as part of the budget but if it does not arrive then she will make the necessary adjustments. The Commission agreed that they wished to keep D. Hall and N. Nease at full time employment and prefer to cut the youth employment. Teen Member Update: S. Mulinos has contact a Government instructor, Ms. Wilcox, at the Dryden High School. The DRYC is on the list of potential opportunities for their (students) Community Service Projects to fulfill their responsibility. Membership/Recruitment: Currently the DRYC is having difficulty getting members to join and/or attend. There are currently 2 vacancies on the Commission and 4 members whose terms end in December 2015. Next meeting: Operating Guidelines/bylaws Member recruitment Fund Raising? Determine the date of the retreat Dave Hall personal report Community Space Steering Committee: - Cornell Coop Extension started a conversation in the county to identify the community needs in the area of youth and families. The need for community space arose from the discussion. - They have worked out a vision and some of the goals - The group is hoping to restrict themselves to 12 – 15 members - The meetings will be the second Wednesday of the month at 6PM. The location will vary. Program Quality Assessment by Cooperative Extension Dryden Recreation and Youth Commission September 23, 2015 3 All cooperative extension programs were visited twice, once by an internal team of cooperative extension staff and once by an external team of staff from the Youth Services department. The scores are being used to determine training needs. In most areas, D. Hall and N. Nease scores were higher or even. Please see attached. School Liaison: Brian Ford Mr. Ford does not attend the meetings but he is part of the email group. He gets the minutes and other material and feels he is able to keep up with the DRYC. The United Way Youth and Philanthropy Focus Group Two groups of students, one high school and one middle school, are provided money to allocate to local enterprises. They are being guided by Linda Bruno. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30PM. Respectfully submitted, Erin A.
