One change is that the teen challenges group is being converted and renamed to Lunch Bunch. It will be a smaller group; Dave suggested to school personnel that an active “recess” time be offered to supplement Lunch Bunch since he is no longer able to offer this. Primitive Pursuits has made good use of the extended winter weather to challenge students in outdoor activities. Iron Chef has become immensely popular. Nikki Nease – OURS –Shared her written report (attached). YOURS E-board elections just took place, restructuring to 2 vice presidents next year to share workload. Recent benefit concert at The Nines raised $560. Duck Raise fundraiser will take place 4/27 (fliers shared); OURS must sell 400 ducks, support from DRYC would be appreciated. Monday’s new Mentors in Training (MIT) has become very popular, 2 MIT’s are now paired with younger mentees. New program day on Thurs. has been added this year. Program time has 2 parts: mentors paired with younger mentees (7-9 years) to work on literacy followed by MIT-led activity (examples: academic, science, music, crafts). Youth Employment – (see end of OURS report for details) HS principal is supportive of new program; Nikki has begun outreach to both youth and other potential workplaces; will reach out to Villages soon re. camp jobs. Linda Schoffel – Shared 3 budgets (attached): Dave’s DYS program, Nikki’s OURS program, Nikki’s Youth Employment program. Staff salaries are slightly higher than budgeted last fall; County provided an increase to raise all salaries to living wage level or more. Linda next shared detailed annual reports for both Dave’s and Nikki’s programs. Stephanie took copies for Andrew and Mary Ann. Linda is retiring at the end of May, all wished her well and thanked her. 5. Old business Working Calendar – Draft shared; Kris requested adding “Vitality Checklist” to Oct. so it can be completed before a planned gathering of all commissions in November. Town Park Resolution – Stephanie delivered it to both Jane and Mary Ann, it’s pending for action by town board. Commission members had no additional feedback re. Andrew’s proposal that the Town build a community center first; members feel additional study is needed. Youth Needs Assessment – (handout, attached) Needs assessment plan is to gather feedback from 3 audiences. Parents (this is being handled by Sharon’s SUNY class); Youth (DRYC responsible) and Community Stakeholders (DRYC responsible). Kris proposes we address the youth component now so we can have information by the time the school year ends. We can address how to handle the community component next month. Kris and Melissa had met to discuss C:\Users\deputyclerk\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\YWERDHVQ\3-26-14 minutes.docx 2 this; they propose DRYC develop a short survey that youth can administer 1-on-1 to other youth. Melissa had said $200 from Dryden Rec. budget could be available as incentives for youth who help with this. (Need to confirm with Andrew.) Youth groups to approach include OURS Teen/Tween Leadership council, Rachel’s Challenge, Student Council. DRYC added youth in Dave’s program. Kris drafted some possible questions, will email to DRYC members for review and suggestions. We will put this on the agenda next month to finalize. Community Grant Committee – All DRYC members who were present are interested in being involved. Kris will re-send community grants URL; members who need help with log-in/passwords will have to ask Andrew; if Tom is interested in participating, Andrew will have to “invite” him electronically. Application deadline is March 31. Members set meeting for April 15, 7:00 PM at Town Hall to discuss applications and develop recommendations for April DRYC meeting. Recreation Director Search – Application deadline is March 31. Additional advertising of the opening was done at area colleges. Kris sent list of additional desired qualities described by DRYC last month to Mary Ann. Interview committee – any and all DRYC members are interested but it will depend on when they are scheduled.
