HomeMy WebLinkAboutJunk Cars Laws HERE IS SOME GOOD NEWS FOR ALL DAM RESIDENTS While the weather permits, Paul' s Auto Parts has agreed to remove any junk cars from your property--regardless of value. This is a service afforded at no cost to any Danby resident. Here is better news. Paul will offer a 25% discount coupon good on one purchase of automobile parts within three months from the time when Paul receives the title or registration to your junk car. We think this is a most generous offer by Paul Hardesty and we hope that you will think so too. Paul has a new tilt- bed truck so he can carry two cars at once, so if your neighbor also has a junk car that he is willing to part with on these terms it will make it easier for Paul to coordinate the two at once. We think that this will prove to be more effective than our new junk law. HELP US PROVE IT ! ! If your junk car is a 1972 model or older, the registration is its title. If the car is a 1973 model or newer, you should have a separate title document for it. Paul will need from you either the registration or title when he picks up the car; the title needs to be clear with no liens or with a lien release to show that any lien has been satisfied. If you do not have documents showing title to the car, the Town Clerk will have forms to fill out requesting a duplicate title or to declare the car an abandoned vehicle so it can be taken away. If you are interested in taking advantage of this arrangement, call the Town Clerk at 277-4788 or stop in at her office. She will be able to supply you with the necessary forms and information. LIGUORI : I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE CONCERNING THE DISPOSAL OF MY PROPERTY IN THE TOWN OF DANBY. FOR TWENTY YEARS I LIVED NEXT TO A FIELD ON THE SOUTHERN PART OF COMFORT RD. THEN IN 1984 SOMEONE BOUGHT THE LAND ADJACENT TO MY SOUTHERN PROPERTY LINE AND ERECTED A LARGE UNSIGHTLY BARN. AT FIRST I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THAT THE BARN WOULD BE USED TO HOUSE ANIMALS . SUCH HAS NOT BEEN THE CASE. IT NOW IS USED FOR REPAIRING CARS ON NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS. OLD CARS AND JUNKED TRUCKS NOW LITTER THE LANDSCAPE AROUND THE BARN. IN 1954 I WENT TO THE TOWN BOARD AND INFORMED THEM OF MY DISPLEASURE WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THE BARN AND WAS TOLD BY THE THEN ZONING OFFICER THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. I THEN DECIDED TO PUT MY PROPERTY UP FOR SALE . AS TIME WENT BY THE LAND CONTINUED TO CHANGE IN APPEARANCE. VARIOUS OLD CARS AND TRUCKS HAVE BEEN PLACED BEHIND AND IN FRONT OF THE BARN AND AN APPARENT PART TIME REPAIR BUSINESS IS THRIVING. I HAVE TRIED TO SELL MY HOME THROUGH SEVERAL REALTORS AND HAVE HAD ONLY ONE PERSON EXPRESS REAL INTEREST IN THE PROPERTY . ( THIS WAS BEFORE THE REPAIR BUSINESS APPEARED) HE OFFERED ME A VERY LOW PRICE AT THE TIME AND I WAS THEREFORE UNABLE TO SELL. I PRESENTLY HAVE MY HOME UNDER ANOTHER REALTOR. THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF PEOPLE LOOKING AT THE HOUSE BUT THEY ALL SAY THE SAME THING, THAT THEY DO NOT LIKE THE SITUATION NEXT DOOR. THEY DO NOT EVEN MAKE A LOW OFFER. IS THERE NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE SITUATION? IS IT TRUE THAT THERE IS NO ENFORCEMENT OF ZONING OR JUNK LAWS IN DANBY? CAN ANYONE DO AS THEY PLEASE IN THE TOWN? ONE ONLY HAS TO LOOK AT THE MAIN ROAD TO SEE THE NONCOMPLIANCE OR NONEXISTANCE OF ZONING IN DANBY. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GIVE ME RELATIVE TO MY SITUATION.
