of
Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of Ithaca
July 12 , 1961 .

The meeting of the Town of Ithaca Zoning Board of
Appeals was held at the Town Highway Barn , Elmira Road , on
July 12 , 1961 at 7 : 30 P . M . It was duly publicized in the
ITHACA JOURNAL on July 6 , 1961 . Members of the Board present
were : Chairman William Rolston , David Powers , and Aldus
Fogelsanger , Others present were : Zoning Officer . Robert
Wells , and A . Zeipe ,
Mr . Zeipe seeks permission for construction of a
garage closer than seven feet to a side lot line at his home ,
228 Coddington Road . The Zoning Officer put a stake seven
feet from the lot line which is the lawful dustance and issued
a permit for erection of the garage . Now the contractor
states. that this does not allow space enough to properly
support the garage roof and install doors . The petition
asks that the garage be allowed to be four feet from the line .
Due to topography of the land , ( the drive -way is
below grade ) , and various conditions that exist on this
property including lack of cooperation on the joint drive -way
which is reported impossible to remedy , the Board feels that
it is • necessary to grant this variance allowing the garage
to be built as close to the line as four feet six inches .
The Board considered the conditions of unnecessary hardship
and . safety in getting the car off the street and under cover .
On motion moved and seconded , the variance was
unanimously granted .
There being no further business , the meeting was
adjourned .
