Zoning Board of - Appeals of Town of . Ithaca
December 23 , 1957 .
Knight Paving Company - Applicant .
The meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town
of Ithaca was held on December 23 , 1957 , at 5 : 15 P . M . at
the town barn as advertised on December . 16 , 1957 in the
Ithaca Journal . Members . present were : Aldus Fogelsanger ,
David Powers ; William -Rolston , chairman ; and Robert Powers ,
acting secretary . Others present were : Roger Armstrong ,
district manager of Knight Paving Company ; Mr . Kitzburg ;
Norbert Schickel ; William , Reeder , President of Bryant Park
Civic Association ; Mr. . Hemming , Mrs . Terry ; William Campbell ;
Mr . and Mrs . Robert Terwilliger ; Mr . Heald ; Mr . C . O . Bangs ;
and Mr . Bruska .
The chairman , William Rolston , called the meeting to
order and stated that the purpose of the meeting was to
consider the appeal of Knight Paving Company for a non-
conforming mndustrial use in a . residential area , the
subject at hand being an eight by twelve cinder block
addition which has already been erected on the west side
of an existing building on vine Street . The building is
being used for motor oil storage .
A number of residents of the area were presents and
although there were no objections to the building in question ,
there were strenuous . objections to the entire operation be -
cause of odors , noise , stains , and falling property values . ,
Certain of . those present expressed a desire for an investi -
gation of all construction since the zoning ordinance was
enacted .
It was felt by the board that no action could be taken
until the site had been examined .
There being no other business the meeting was adjourned . .
