A meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of Ithaca was held on November 8 , 1955 at 5 : 00 P . M. at the town barn to discuss the appeal as stated in the Ithaca Journal of November 1 and 2 , 19550 The members present were . Elmer Phillips , chairman; Thomas Smith ; William Rolston ; Aldus Fogelsanger ; and Constance E . Cook, secretary. Harry Gordon, town zoning officer ; the applicant and his attorney, Allan H . Treman; were also present . The chairman called the meeting to order and stated that the meeting was called to consider the application of Jack Petrillose for a variance of Sections 14 and 39 of Article IV of the zoning ordinance with respect to property located at 205 Elmira Road . Applicant testified that he owned a fairly large tract of land on the Elmira Road and planned to erect several buildings upon it . The land is swampy and borders a drainage ditch . He proposed to build a garage and gas. station and in order to use the entire piece of property efficiently would have to place the first building nearer to the 'lot line than permitted by the ordinance and in excess of 40% coverage of the area . The board discussed the character of the land in question and neighboring land; flood problems ; fire safety ; and the future development of the area . After examining maps and plans submitted by applicant , the board voted unanimously to take no action at this time but to re -consider the application at the next meeting .
