HomeMy WebLinkAboutZBA Minutes 1954-12-02 The first meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of Ithaca
was held at 8 P. M. on December 2 , 1954 at the home of Elmer S . Phillips
on Pine Tree Road . The members present were Elmer Phillips, William
Rolston, Thomas Smith, Aldus Fogelsanger and Constance K . Eberhardt .
Others present were ., Harry Gordon, town supervisor and zoning officer,
and Dean Thomas W. MacKesey ,
Harry Gordon announced that the town board had designated Elmer
Phillips as chairman of the zoning board of appeals and Constance K .
Eberhardt as secretary of the board . Dean MacKesey spoke to the board
concerning powers and duties of zoning boards of appeal . He recommended
, the following reading materials .
Zoning Digest - American Board of Planners
Zoning Bulletin- Regional Planning Association , N . Y . C .
Planning and Zoning Note- American City Magazine
McQuialan, Municipal Corporation
New York State Town Law
Bassett, Zoning ( Rev . Ed . )
Rathkopt, Zoning ( 2nd Ed . )
The board recommended that the town board purchase two books on zoning :
Bassett, Zoning ( Rev. Ed . )
Rathkopt , The Law of Zoning and Planning ( 2nd Ed . )
A general discussion followed and the board recommended that the
following steps be taken .
10 Obtain membership in the New York State Federation of Official
Planning Boards .
2 . Distribute mimeographed material by John W. Reps .
3 . Purchase minute books .
4 . Mail copies of the zoning ordinance and maps to local builders
and other interested parties .
5 . Write to George Robinson for reprints of the provisions of the
town law relating to zoning .
The members discussed the procedure for calling of meetings . Several
possibilities were discussed . On motion duly . made and seconded , the
following resolution was unanimously adopted
WHEREAS, few applications are expected and regular meetings do not
appear to be warranted , and the town zoning officer is . in a position to
inform the members of the board of applications and meeting dates , . be it
RESOLVED , that meetings will be called whenever an application is
filed with the board , The town zoning officer will notify the chairman
of the application and ' a meeting date will be selected . The town zoning
officer will notify other members and the applicant on behalf of- the
chairman and will insert a public notice in the Ithaca Journal , the
official newspaper of the town as- required by the town zoning ordinance .
There being no further business the meeting adjourned .
