HomeMy WebLinkAboutPB Minutes 1969-01-14 Town of Ithaca Planning Board January 14 , 1969 The Regular Meeting of the Town of Ithaca Planning Board was held on January 14 , 1969 , at the Town of Ithaca offices , 108 E . Green St . , Ithaca . Present ; Chairman Walter Schwan , Arnold Albrecht , Dan Baker , Jim Boodley , Elmer Phillips , Bob Scannell , Paul Tavelli and Secretary Lempi Sincebaugh . Also Sue Strandberg , Ithaca Journal Writer , Karl Butler , Rocco Lucente , Donald Lucente , Dr . Meshri , Mrs . Krook , Mrs , Livesay , Michael Pichel and about six other interested parties , NEW MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING BOARD The Town Board , at their January 13th meeting , voted upon Arnold Albrecht and James Boodley as new members of the Planning Board to fill the expired terms of Jim Lacy and John Vasse , Both terms will expire December 31 , 197 + 9 CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF THE LATTER DAY SAINTS PROPOSED CHURCH IN SCHOENFELD TRACT The Latter Day Saints , represented by Karl Butler , are inte - rested in buying about 3 acres in the Schoenfeld tract on which to . build a new church. , They wish to know , if and when the proposed road starting from Winthrop Drive is built , if the church would be allowed . Mr . Scannell made a motion , seconded by Mr . Tavelli , to allow the church to be built , subject to the approval of the subdivision plan . Approval unanimous , " FAMILY " Since the last meeting , copies of the statement drawn up by Town Attorney Jim Buyoucos have been circulated to members of the board , Mr . Rocco Lucente introduced Dr . Meshri , employed by Cornell University , from Bombay , India , who spoke on behalf of foreign students desirous of living with American families in an attempt to understand American life , customs , government , etc . , and also for those students wishing to rent apartments together to share costs , fellowship and aid each other in studying . Mrs . Livesay attempted to explain the residents ' position that these groups of students did not integrate into the community and pointed out that it is in the planning stage when something can be done about the number of students involved , cars and parking , trash accumulation , etc , 1 R \` 2 Michael Pichel , who built two houses on Snyder Hill Road , is in favor of resolving the problems directly - if parking is the problem , figure a solution for it ; if it ' s trash , likewise , etc . These people were referred to the Town Board Citizens Group . After further lively discussion from Rocco Lucente , pressing for a determination on the entire issue , the matter was tabled until the next meeting . This will allow additional perusal time by the two new members of the Board , and the one absentee last month , who are unfamiliar with the situation . COUNTY EXTENSION SERVICE Mr . Phillips reported that the County Extension Service has a representative in the community to work on planning problems . It was felt to be a good suggestion to contact him . FRANCIS CHASE REQUEST FOR A BUILDING PERMIT Brought up by Paul Tavelli was the question whether Mr . Chase could be issued a building permit for the house already constructed on the lot which Mr . Blatchley had sold him before getting approval . This approval was necessary , since four lots can be sold before contacting the Planning Board , and the lot sold to Francis Chase constituted the fifth lot . Mr . Phillips made a suggestion that the Chairman of the Board should contact Jim Buyoucos about this for a recommendation on how the board should handle the matter . The meeting adjourned at 9 : 00 P .
