Harry W. Gordon, Supervisor Trumansburg Road Ithaca, New York Dear Harry : I would like to propose, for the consideration by the Town Board, the addition of two members to the Town of Ithaca Planning Boardp thereby expanding its present membership of five to seven. Article 271 of the Town Law authorizes the Town Board to "appoint a planning board of five members or seven members in the discretion of the board, . . . . . . . " . I make this recommendation for two reasons : ( 1 ) As Ahe Regional Master Plan is completed, an additional load will be thrown onto the Board to study and evaluate its pro- posals which bear directly upon the Town, and to explain and • interpret its recommendations to the people in the Town. ( 2 ) The North east section of the Town is not now represented on the Board. The second of these could be rectified, of coursev by not re- appointing a present member whose term expires at the end of this year. This , however$ defeats the purpose of my first argument . If the! Town Board is willing to enlarge the planning board, I would heartily recommend that ]'fir. Loren Marion be designated as a new member . You are familiar with the interest and support he has already shown for planning activities . I would leave at the discretion of the Town Board the additional appointment, but would hope he would be selected to represent those in the Hanshaw-Warren Road area. Sincerely yours E . B . Watson, Chairman EBW/ld .
