HomeMy WebLinkAboutPB Minutes 1957-03-06 MINUTES ITHACA TOWN PLANNING BOARD March 6 , 1957 PRESENT : Watson , Philips , Hurst , Vasse , Liguori and Boynton Minutes for the last meeting w ere read and approved . There was no meeting on February 6th as previously scheduled . Ben Boynton announced that the Town Board ,has scheduled a public hearing in regards to our recommended amendments to Section 4 and Section 9 of the Zoning Ordinance , Mr . George Abbott of Ithaca Textiles , Inc . , made �il a reques't' for rezoning of the area on the east side of Five Mile Drive opposite Coy Glen and Glensid e Road from residential to industrial . Due to indeterminate factors at the time of drafting of the zoning ordinance , a 250 foot strip along the east side of Five Mile Drive wa ;3 zoned residential , backed up by an industrial zone . Mr . Abbott proposes a 40 , 000 square foot single story, light industrial plant of good appearance . His request was supported by letters from the Board of Supervisors , the Tompkins County Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and the Mayorts Committee on Industrial Development After considerable discussion , the proposal was turned over to a committee composed of Watson , Philips and Hurst for additional study . The committee is to report back to the board at 8 p . m . March 7 , 1957 . Ben Boynton briefly, discussed the proposed town ordinance on trailer parks # It was agreed that such an ordinance is needed . Boynton and Liguori were asked to review the proposed ordinance and to report back to the full board on March 11th . Ben Boynton pointed out that Mr . L . Lieberman ' s request for rezoning of the land in the vicinity of the salt block on East Lake Shore Drive must be acted on soon or the automatic clause of the zoning ordinance will take effect . Mr . Boynton did not know the period of time involved in this automatic clause but stated that he would look into it further. Motion was made by Liguori and unanimously approved that - "The Town Board gives serious consideration to the establishment of the central town office for all town businesses at the town barns in the interest of better efficiency . " Mr . Boynton discussed the need for a town tax map . The board agreed that such a map would improve efficiency in the handling and recording lot information . The board endorsed Mr . Boynton ' s efforts to obtain the tax map and suggested that he discuss the matter with the town board . Mr . Boynton is to look into the status of the propoeed metropolitan planning commission and report back to the board at the next meeting . Mr .
