Dear Mr. Hannan : -
As requested during our phone conversation of Tuesday ,
October 29 , _ 1974 , this letter will summarize the policy which
the Town will follow with the City of Ithaca in extending
existing waterlines and in issuing tap permits as ' agreed to
during the same discussion .
In installing new - water mains , as part of.- excavating=-=
and laying the new water pipe , taps in the line , corporation
stops and curb stops will be installed as part of the exten-
sion . To make a house connection from the curb stop to a
new home the owner must then obtain a building permit from
the Town of Ithaca , a water permit frost the Town of Ithaca ,
and a tap permit- from the City of Ithaca in that order - as is.
presently done __ and - all - inspections . of house_ _ connections wily
= remain as - pre sently. -done-. As an added safeguard to the -City_:1 :=
we will- provide your - office with a copy of every building
permit, - where - the new - procedure_- is followed , and will main-;
tain surveillance . to insure that all water used during -con- - .-
struction is metered.
This minor change , with regard to installing new water
mains and house laterals as far as the curb stop , will not
affect existing procedures in areas where water mains already
are in place and an additional tap is requested . In the lat-
ter case a building permit from the Town , a water permit from
the Town and a tap permit from the City will be required before
tapping the main line is done by the City as is now the policy .
"As builts " of water line and tap locations will be
required of the developer and verified by the Town for new .
mains where main line taps are permitted as part of new .
installation .
