TOWN BOARD MINUTES
Special Meeting 7: 00 P.M. July 7, 1997
PRESENT :
Supervisor Mary Oltz
Councilpersons : Edward Inman, Joseph Schwartz, Howard Steiner
Others Present :

Members of the Public :
Mary Lou Hardesty, Naomi and Richard Strichartz, John Henderson, Margaret Shepard, Elizabeth
and Robert Roe, Willard & Dorothy Daetch, Faith Chase , Verna Little
Supervisor Oltz called the Special Meeting of the Town Board to order at 7 : 04 P.M.
Communications :
1 ) Letter of interest in serving on the Town of Danby Town Board or Planning Board from
Naomi Strichartz.
Resignation of Councilperson Rosa Lee Johnson
Supervisor Oltz reported that Councilperson Rosa Lee Johnson submitted her resignation to the
Town Clerk on June 30, 1997 and was effective as of July 1 , 1997.
Councilperson Steiner said that he would like to have the Board acknowledge Rosa Lee Johnson for
her service to the Town and introduced the following resolution :
RESOLUTION NO. 45 OF 1997
ACKNOWLEDGMENT TO ROSA LEE JOHNSON - Approved
By Councilperson Steiner: Seconded by Councilperson Inman
WHEREAS, Rosa Lee Johnson has been a resident of the Town of Danby for many years, and
WHEREAS, Rosa Lee Johnson has served her community for many years as a volunteer for many
activities and committees in the Town of Danby, and
WHEREAS, Rosa Lee Johnson has served her community as a Councilperson for the Town of
Danby for the past three (3 ) years ; now be it
RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Danby wishes to acknowledge Rosa Lee
Johnson for the many years and contributions she has provided for the residents of the Town of
Danby as a Councilperson and as a volunteer in the Town, and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Danby wishes Rosa Lee Johnson a long
retirement in the Sunshine State of Florida and the enjoyment of her family.
A roll call vote on the resolution resulted as follows :

Town Board Vacancy
Supervisor Oltz reported that the Town Board has not interviewed to fill the vacancy on the Town
Board as the term expires on December 31 , 1997 .
Councilperson Steiner said that there are many issues facing the Town and believes that Mary Lou
Hardesty has the ability to be fair to all parties and make decisions that best serve all of Danby F I
Residents .
RESOLUTION NO 46 OF 1997
APPOINTMENT TO TOWN BOARD - APPROVED
By Councilperson Steiner : Seconded by Supervisor Oltz
WHEREAS , a vacancy exists on the Town of Danby Town Board due to the resignation of
Councilperson Rosa Lee Johnson, and
WHEREAS, Mary Lou Hardesty has expressed an interest in serving as a Town of Danby Town
Councilperson, now be it
RESOLVED, that the Town of Danby Town Board appoints Mary Lou Hardesty of 50 South Danby
Road, Willseyville, New York to the vacant seat on the Board, and be it further
RESOLVED, that the term of appointment is to begin immediately and will expire on December
31 , 1997 .
A roll call vote on the resolution resulted as follows :

Oltz Aye Carried Unanimously
The Town Clerk administered the "Oath of Office" to Mary Lou Hardesty and she was seated on the
Board by Supervisor Oltz.
Town Hall Renovation\Addition Project
Councilperson Inman reported to the Board that he has talked with some area contractors regarding
the Town Hall Bids . Many did not submit bids due to the shortness of time allowed for the return
of bids and the beginning of the project. The combined bids for the project were approximately
$ 50,000 .00 over the approved amount of residents in a permissive referendum and did not include
a $ 15 , 000 . 00 contingency necessary for the project. He suggested to the Board that they might
consider rejecting all of the bids and asking the architect to re-bid the project.
Supervisor Oltz reported that the lease at the Danby School is a one ( 1 ) year lease from June 1997 -
1998 .
RESOLUTION NO. 47 OF 1997
TOWN HALL RENOVATION/ADDITION BIDS REJECTED
By Councilperson Inman : Seconded by Councilperson Schwartz
WHEREAS, the sealed bids received by the Town of Danby for the Town Hall Renovation\Addition T
Project were opened on June 25 , 1997 , and
WHEREAS, the bids received for the Town Hall Renovation\Addition Project were over the amount
approved by the Town Residents for the project, now be it
RESOLVED, that the Town of Danby Town Board formally rejects all bids for the Town Hall
Renovation/Addition Project.

Councilperson Schwartz was not absent - he arrived late .
Next Meeting of the Town Board
The July 14 , 1997 Meeting of the Town Board will be at the Danby School Building, 54 A
Gunderman Road, Ithaca, New York .
