Thorpe Municipal Building 3577 Terrace Rd Cortland, NY 13045 Dear Mr. Williams, The Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is sponsoring an Erosion and Sediment Control (E&SC) class on February 16, 2021 from 8:OOam to 12:30pm. This workshop will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Any construction project that involves soil disturbance greater than one acre must obtain coverage under the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) General Permit for Stormwater Discharges from a Construction Activity. Under the current SPDES General Permit, contractors and construction inspectors are required to complete a four hour E&SC training class endorsed by the New York State Department of Conservation (DEC) every three years. This session will be an opportunity to review and perhaps learn more about erosion and sediment control measures your town may be able to utilize during construction activities such as road and ditch construction or maintenance. Your highway department may already be aware of the need for this training. Please feel free to invite town highway personnel, board members your municipality's Code Enforcement Officer as well. The E&SC Class is acceptable as Professional Development Elective Credits for Code Officers. If you have any further questions about the training sessions, feel fr ee to give me a call at (607) 345- 4624 or at our office number above.
