This facility has been operating in this area since 1932, both as a fish hatchery and research station. The laboratory's very existence is contingent upon a dependable supply of clean, uncontaminated water. Concern is expressed in connection with present growth plans in this area and more specifically industrial development in the proximity of the laboratory. This is especially so in the instance of industries using large quantities of water or releasing effluent water that could adversely affect operations. The laboratory wants to go on record as being in favor of continued economic growth in the Cortland area. On the other hand, we are reasonably sure that others as well as ourselves do not want to jeopardize the existence of this Cortland laboratory. Possibly some type of buffer zone or green belt should be considered that would be agreeable to all interests involved. We and the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife stand ready to help and assist in this matter. October 3, 1972 G. L.
