COMMON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
CITY OF ITHACA, NEW YORK
Special Meeting 6:00 p.m. October 6, 2021

Alderpersons (9) Brock, McGonigal, Murtagh, Nguyen, Gearhart, Fleming, Kerslick, Lewis,
Mohlenhoff
OTHERS PRESENT:
City Clerk – Conley Holcomb
City Attorney – Lavine
PUBLIC COMMENT:
The following people addressed Common Council regarding the filling of the Fourth Ward
Alderperson vacancy:
Katie Sims
Sara Hess
David Daly
Carol Chock
David Halpert
Patrick Mehler
SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS:
Consideration of the Fourth Ward Vacancy Selection Committee Recommendation
Mayor Myrick addressed comments made regarding the vacancy appointment process. Discussion
followed with Council members offering support for their preferred candidate.
Resolution:
By Mayor Myrick: Seconded by Alderperson Kerslick
RESOLVED, That Patrick Mehler be appointed to the vacant Fourth Ward Common Council seat.
Discussion followed on the floor regarding the attributes of each candidate.
A vote on the Resolution resulted as follows:
Ayes (6) McGonigal, Gearhart, Fleming, Kerslick, Mohlenhoff, Lewis
Nays (3) Brock, Murtagh, Nguyen
Carried (6-3)
Resolution:
By Alderperson Fleming: Seconded by Alderperson Lewis
RESOLVED, That Patrick Mehler be sworn into office and seated at the October 13, 2021 Special
Common Council meeting.
Ayes (8) Brock, McGonigal, Nguyen, Murtagh, Gearhart, Fleming, Kerslick, Mohlenhoff
Nays (1) Lewis
Carried (8-1)
Mayor Myrick administered the Oath of Office to Alderperson Mehler.
ADJOURNMENT:
On a motion the meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
