June 11 , 1963
The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was called
to order by Supervisor Gridley at 8 p . m . Present were Justices
Hoagland and Spaulding , Councilmen Baker and Saltonstall , Hwy .
Supt . Case , Assessor Abrams , and five citizens .
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved .
Mr . A . K . Fletcher was present to discuss possible Town parti -
cipation in publication of the next edition of the Town of Dryden
d irectory . It was agreed that the Town Board is interested ; that
Supervisor Gridley keep in touch with Mr . Fletcher regarding it ;
and that Assessor Abrams be asked to prepare an accurate Town
map which can be . used ' in it .
Mr . Peter Levatich asked to be heard to request that consideration
be given to rebuilding the lower half of Genung Road . Hwy . Supt .
Case advised that gravel can be put in , but that the amount of
road work to be done in the Town makes it impossible to state when
major work can be done on this road .
Mr . Levatich also stated his interest in seeing anctequitable and
just zoning plan for the Town , and asked what is being done about
it . The work of the Planning Board was summarized , and it was
pointed out that they hav&•tbeen making an intensive study of the
Town as a preliminary to any planning ; and further that subdivision
control and the ordinance for building reports had been the first
need .
Mr . Oliver Jones and Mr . Donald Armstrong asked to be heard on
the matter of proposed ordinance to require building reports .
P oints covered in the public hearing were reviewed . They questioned
whether this was part of a long range plan , and it was stated that
as the Town grows and the problems increase further ordinances Tay
be needed , and in that sense it is part of a long range plan .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
G eneral bills totaling $ 1455 . 25 be paid as audited. . Roll call
vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that highway
bills totaling $ 5214 . 39 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all
voting YES .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that a
portion of the original Ithaca-Dryden Highway , as described in
attached Certificate and map , be declared abandoned pursuant to
Section 205 of the Highway Law . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
L etter from Acme Pest . Control re : control of rodents on Town dump
was read , and the Town Clerk instructed to state in reply that "its '- :
d ecision would be deferred until the next meeting , when results of
county discussions will be available .
L etter of thanksfrom William Deming , District Principal , for use
of voting machine was read . .
Moved by Justice Hoagland;, seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that
Republican election inspectors be appointed as listed in letter
of May 8 , 1963 from Edward Brundage , Town Chairman Republican
Committee , and that the Democratic inspectors be considered
appointed upon receipt of list from Town Chairman Democratic
• Committee . Carried and so ordered . ( List appended to these
minutes . )

and that the same has been abandoned by the public ., and is no
longer used as a public highway , to wit : ALL THAT TRACT OR PARCEL

and State of New York and being a portion of Military Lot #51
in said Town bounded and described as follows : Being that
portion of the original Ithaca-Dryden Highway extending from
the southeasterly line of the Lehigh Valley Railroad ( E . C .
& N . Branch ) right of way easterly and southeasterly to the

easterly line of premises now or formerly of Bernice Milliman
( See Liber 406 of Deeds at page 601 ) and the southwesterly line
of lands now or formerly of Donald E . & Violet E . Miles ( see

Letter from Mrs . Hugh Holley re : Monkey Run Road was read and
referred to the Highway Superintendent .
Letter from Mr . Ben Boynton , Supervisor of the Town of Ithaca ,
was read for information only . It referred to possibility of ex-
tending water service , stating ; that the Slaterville Road might be
possible , but that the Snyder Hill Road would not be practical .
Moved by Clm . Baker , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that Hwy . Supt .
Case be authorized to attend the school for Highway Superintendents
at Cornell University on June 24 , 25 , and 26 . Carried and so
ordered .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that the
H ighway Superintendent be paid $ 40 . 00 per month for use of his own
car , plus gas and oil at the Town pump . Carried and so ordered .
The matter of action to be taken to itifethe Bingo Ordinance to
conform with the new statute was referred to Atty . Williamson .
Assessor Abrams suggested that items be given to the papers , re -
questing names of people interested and qualified to serve for
Jury duty . It was agreed that this be done .
Assessor Abrams poif}ted out that a serious fire today emphasizes the
need for fire walls above the last floor in buildings over 50 feet
in length . This matter was referred to Atty . Williamson with the
request that some means of requiring this protection in new. build -
ings , or those being remodeled , be drafted .
O ther matters covered in the Assessor ' s report were : problems of
fence viewing which , if not settled may have to be referred to the
B oard as a Board of Review ; the need for tax maps - 67 transfers
of property in May , 51 of which were split parce4. s , present a
problem when accurate data is not given which would be remedied with
maps ; that over all increases in the assessment roll appear to be
g ood , though a definite figure cannot be given until next month .
Grievance Day is set for Tuesday , July 9 , from 10 a . m . to 2 p . m .
The next regular Town Board;; meeting was set for 9 : 56- a . m . on
July 9th . .
