HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-03-03 March 3 , 1960 319 Due to inclement weather the , regular monthly Town Board Meeting scheduled for this date was postponed until March 8 , 1960 at 7 : 30 p . m . On March 3 , 1960 Supervisor Gridley and Justice Hoagland held a public hearing at the Town 6ff ice at 7 : 30 p . m . , with reference to the incor- poration of the Freeville Fire Department . There being no persons present to speak on the subject , the meeting was adjourned . Lewis Gridley , Supervisor k March 8 1960 The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held March 8 , 1960 at 7 : 30 p . m . at the Town Office . Present were Supervisor Gridley , Justice Spaulding , Justice Hoagland , Councilmen Baker and S altonstall , Highway Sup ' t . Beach , and Deputy Highway Supt . Case . The minutes of the meetings of February 3rd and 17th were read and approved . The certificates of incorporation for the Freeville Fire Department were signed . Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker that Highway bills totaling $ 6882 . 27 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YES . Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Clm . Baker , that General Bills totaling $ 1036 . 79 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YES . Justice Hoagland offered the ' following resolution and moved its adop - t ion ; " Whereas , equipment purchases will have exceeded the amount budgeted in Item 3 , Be it Resolved that the sum of $448 . 50 be trans - ferred froE General Fund accounts to Highway Fund Item 3 - Egmipment purchases . Seconded by Cim . ' Baltonstall . Roll call vote , all voting YES . Supervisor Gridley reported that tt(e Town car used by the Assessor has broken down and that it is not considered advisable to repair it . After discussion Justice Hoagland moved that the Town Clerk be instruc - ted to advertise for bids fora one half ton pickup truck for the H ighway Dept . , with the plan that the present zO. ckup belonging to the H ighway Dept . be assigned to the Assessor . Bids will be opened at the regular Board meeting on April 4 , 1960 at 6 : 00 p . m . Motion seconded by Clm . Saltonstall . Roll call vote , all voting YES . H ighway Supt . Beach having recommended that the Thomas Road be topped , Clm . Saltonstall moved that the Thomas Road in the Town of Dryden be topped on Erwin specifications . Seconded by Clm . Baker . Roll call vote , all voting YES . It was agreed that there should be a spring road tour on Saturday , . April 9th at 9 : 00 a . m . If the weather should not be suitable it will be delayed for one week . ,-J -- .® rep Mr . Poe _ Hardesty was present and asked what can be done about the Genung Road . After discussion it was agreed that the Town Board cannot make a definite commitment yet about what can be done , though it is h oped that some work can be done there when the weather breaks . It was pointed out that this kind of problem is one of the reasons for the spring road tour . Supervisor Gridley reported that working drawings of the Baker Hill propsed road are being made , and they will go to Erwin Plan to be processed in June or July , 1961 . D ep ' y . Highway Supt . Case reported that he had checked the German Cross Road today , and that it is in as good condition ag any of our roads . There are ruts , but that is true everywhere now . The full 321 length of the road was cindered today . A letter from Supervisor Ben Boynton about the problem of house numbering in Varna was referred to Town Clerk , to ask that Rev . Gibby be rquested to assist if he can . Supervisor Gridley read a letter from Mrs . Stuart Brown Jr . about zoning . ( See communications file - March 3 , 1960 ) ' Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall that Charles McGory and Charles Downey be appointed custodians of the voting machines for the Special Election to be held April 7 , 1960 . Motion carried and so ordered . Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Spaulding that Supervisor Gridley be empowered to employ the necessary 1 personnel to act as election inspectors for the three voting places at the Special Election on April 7th , the rate of compen- sation to be $ 100 per hour . This . . has been discussed previously and the Board agreed there is no reason to change previous decision to continue use of the name , Chicahominy Road . Town Clerk was instructed to advise Er . Harris Da$ of Ludlowville on the matter . The April meeting will be held Monday , April 4 , 1960 . • Justice Spaulding moved that the meeting be adjourned . Seconded by Clm .
