The regular meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held Aug . 3 , 1959
at 7 : 30P . M . at the Town Office .
Present were Supervisor Gridley , Justices Spaulding and Hoagland ,
Councilmen Baker and Saltonstall , Supt . of Highway Beach and Assessor
Abrams .
The minutes of the previous meeting were read , corrected andapproved .
Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that the
General bills totaling $ 261 . 07 and the Youth Project bills of X94 . 10 ,
be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Baker , that the highway
bills totaling $ 2 , 291 . 70 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting
YES .
Communications were read from Bernice Fuller , requesting repairs on
the Freese Road ; also from S . R . Shapley , commending the action of the
Town Board in appointing a Zoning Commission ; also one from Frank
Wurzel , Varna Fire Chief , stating that if the Town Board would like to
sell the Varna Town Hall , the Varna Fire Department wou4.d like to buy
the property . These communications were placed on file , and Mrs . Fuller ' ;
request referred to the Highway Superintendent .
Assessor Abrams reported that the gross increase of assessment for
1959to be $ 747 , 277 , exemptions and demolitions $40 , 790 , net increase
$ 706 , 487 . i .
Moved ' by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Clm . Saltonstall , that this
report be accepted . Carried . .
Justice Hoagland offered the following resolution and asked its
adoption :
Resolved that : the Dutcher Road No . 2721 from Cortland Road 13 -
Westfall #85 , be placed on Erwin Plan for 1960 .
This resolution was seconded by Clm . Saltonstall and carried .
Supervisor Gridley reported that Mr . Cuykendall made a survey on a
suitable area for a new road to the top of the Baker Hill Road .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland , that Harold
Fitts be appointed Constable for the Town of Dryden , and that Superviso :
Gridley investigate all phases of insurance in regard to Constables .
Roll call vote , all voting YES .
Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Clm . Baker , that thefollow- •
ing: polligg places be designated for the coming year :
District No . 1 - Town Hall , - Varna
" " 2 - Houtz Hall - Etna
It " 3 - Village Hall - Dryden
, " " 4- West Dryden Church
It " 5 - Town Office - Dryden
it 6- Village Hall - Freeville
Motion Carried .
The proposed Zoning Ordinance was discussed .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Justice Hoagland that in as
much as such a large majority of people signed a petition against
zoning , no action would be taken by the Board in regard to zoning
until such time as more people request ,,q Zoning Ordinance . Motion

It was decided that the Town ddfinitely needed regulations
regarding junk yards .
Moved by Clm . Saltonstall , seconded by Clm . Baker , that Attorney
Williamson be asked to meet with the Board and present a legal junk
yard ordinance . Motion Carried .
Moved by Justice Hoagland , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that
this meeting adjourn . Carried .
