HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-01-03 • < 209 January 3rd , 1956 The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held at the Town Office Building on January 3rd at 730 PM . Present were ; Supervisor Gridley , Justices Baker , Shaw , Spaulding , and Whitford . The minutes of the December meeting , also minutes of the annual audit were read for information . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the general bills , totaling $ 206 . 18 , and the youth project bills of $ 37 . 12 be paid as audited . Roll call vote taken , all voting yes . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by ' Justice Baker , that the highway Bills , totaling $ 639 . 09 be paid as audited . Roll call vote taken , all voting YES . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Shaw , that the Tompkins County Rural News be designated as the official newspaper f ordthe Town of Dryden during the year 1956 . Carried and so ordered . Moved by Justice Shaw , secotded by Justice Whitford , that the regular monthly meetings of the Town Board for the year 1956 will be held on the 3rd of each month , or as near the 3rd as possible , as agreed upon by the Board . Carried and so ordered . 4 Mr . William Edwards , Mr . Fra_nk Hanshaw , and Mrs . Chandler Morse , were present to ask about the assessor ' s . appointment . Justice Whitford made the motion to have the Town Clerk insert a notice in the Rural News that the Town Board wished to receive application 's for a full time Assessor . A special Board Meeting will be held on January 24th at 730 PM for the purpose of interviewing all applicants . Seconded by Justice Shaw and carried . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that III8 ¢ a mile be allowed for Assessor and Town. Clerk for tax and election returns . Motion carried . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Whitford , that carried Mrs . Leona Fortner and Mr . Kenneth Rice serve as deputys of town Notion k . / Moved by Justice Baker , seconded Justice Spaulding , that Hrs . Jane Gridley serve as deputy Supervisor . So carried . Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Whitford , that the time of payment of officer ' s salaries for the year 1956 be as • follows : Supervisor , Town Clerk , Justices Spaulding , and Whitford , and Assessor on the first of each month ; Justices Shaw , and Baker every three months . Motion made by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the Supervisor and - Town dlerkbe • delegate A s to the Association of Towns to be held in Buffalo February 7th through 9th inclusive , expenses to be reimbursed by the Town . Sealed bids were opened and read for heating units for town • garage . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded. by Justice Baker , that Myron VanPelt be given the contract for three heating units for $ 1 , 496 . 00 being the lowest bid . Carried . Roll call vote , all voting YES . Letter read from State Traffic Commission Director Lloyd A . Maeder denying request for speed restriction on .Ellis Hollow Road CR 110 between its intersection with the Ithaca Dryden Town Line and its intersection with the Ringwood Road CR164 in the - Town of Dry.den , Tompkins County . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Whitford , that the list of Freeville Firemen be accepted as submitted and placed on . file with other lists . Motion carried . Town Office at 7 : 30 P . M . Jan . 24 for the purpose of interviewing applicants for the job of assessor . Supervisor Gridley , Justices Baker , Spaulding , Shaw ' and Whitford were present . The following applicants were present : Ray Redrick , Carl McKinney , Charles Baldwin , Alvord Baker , Carl Ladd , Grant Abrams . Mr . Drew and Mr . Smith Of the Psychology Dept . of 'Cornell were . present and gave tests to the applicants .
