HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-11-09 202 November 9 , 1955 . The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held N ovember 9 , 1955 at 7 : 30 P . M . at the Town Office Building . Present were Supervisor Downey , Justices Baker , Spaulding , Whitford and Shaw ; Highway Superintendent Beach was unable to attend on account of illness . • The minutes of the October 3rd meeting ; also the Special meeting of October 22nd were read for information . Representatives of two religious groups from West Dryden were , present and Justice Baker presented Oscar Niemi , from the Lutheran Church and Norman Vantine , representing a non - sectarian church . They presented their problem to the Board , both groups desiring to hold meetings at the West Dryden church , so that the time of their meetings • would not conflict with one another . After a discussion , it was decided that the auditorium of the church was to be used for religious meetings only ; and also both groups agreed to meet on November 15th , at which time they would work out a time schedule for their meetings / agreeable to both parties , and present a written agreement with details , to the Town Board for their approval and to be placed in the minutes . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that the H ighway bills , totaling $ 2 , 951 . 70 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YES . . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the G eneral bills totaling 42 , 213 . 58 , and the Youth Project bills of 4229 . 45 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YES . An application for dog enumerator was read from Clyde Stevens . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that Clyde Stevens be appointed dog enumerator for 1955 - 1956 . Motion carried . A petition was read from property owners and residents on the Town Line Road Ithaca - Dryden , requesting the change of the name Town Line Road to Sapsucker Woods Road . . Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Whitford , that the request of these petitioners be granted and the clerk notify Mr . D . J . O ' Connor to that effect . Motion carried . A communication , written by Attorney Charles jewman to John Harachuk , regarding the James - Town of Dryden case , was read . The Town Board agreed that they are all in accord with the manner in which Attorney Newman is handling the case . 203 Justice Shaw offered the following resolution and asked its adoption ; ESOLV,ED , that the Town Board of the Town of Dryden does hereby snonser Four ( 4 ) Youth Recreational Projects as approved by the New York State Youth Commission / as requested by the Bethel Grove Community Home ; Etna Comm - unity ; Varna Community Association and Ellis Hollow Community . Seconded by Justice Whitford . Motion carried . A discussion was held in regard to the appointment of constables for the year 1956 , names to be voted upon at the next meetinar . The matter of the purchase . of a shovel for the Highway Department was discussed and it was decided to take no action until Supt . Beach was better and able to meet with the Board . Supervisor Downey mentioned the fact that the Treasurers of the . Youth Projects should realize their obligations and keep an accurate account of monies spent , so as to keep within their budget . The minutes of this meeting were read and approved . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Shaw , that this Meeting adjourn . - Leona Fortner , Town Clerk Charles Downey , Supervisor .
