HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-08-03 189 August 3 - 1955 . The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held August 3rd , 1955 at 7 : 30 P . M . At the Town Office Building . Present were Supervisor Downey , Superintendent of Highway Beach , and Justices Shaw , Whitford , Baker and Spaulding . The minutes of the previous meeting were read for information . The notice of the Public Hearing relative to the licensing and regulating of Junk Dealers and Dealers in 'Junk Motor Vehicles was published in the Ithaca Journal , due to the fact that the Rural News was not edited the week of July 25th . Mr . Dimock , Mr . Bassett and Mr . Whitlock were present requesting an ordinance , whereby speeding could be restricted on the Ellis Hollow Road . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Shaw , that the Town Board of the Town of Dryden request the State Traffic Commission to investigate the situation and speed hazard from the Ithaca Town line to the junction of the Ringwood , Ellis Hollow and Creek Roads . Motion carried by a roll call vote , all voting YES . The Hearing on the proposed junk yard ordinance was opened at 8 : 00 P . M . and %the proposed ordinance read . Mr . Bizzell and Mr . Hardesty were present and asked questions regarding the regulations of operating junk yards No further discussion , the Hearing recessed . Mr . and. Mrs . Hughes , Mr . Hampton and Mr . Arthur Prince came before the Board to inquire about maintaining the Prince Road . The Town Board. agreed to accept the deed for this road from Mr . Prince and maintain the road as soon as he had the road in shape to meet the requirements agreed upon by them '. Mr . Borowitz was present to remind the Board of their agreement to improve the road past his place this summer . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the ft general bills totaling 4744 . 54 and the Youth Project bills of 478 . 20 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote taken , all justices voting YES . Moved by . Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that the Highway bills totaling 45 , 071 . 50 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , All voting YES , 190 . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Shaw , that Mr . Ernest VanAlstine be appointed to act as Attendance Officer to succeed himself for the year 1955 - 1956 . Motion was carried . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the following polling places be designated for the coming year : District No . 1 Town Hall , Varna No .. 2 Houtz Hall , Etna " No . 3 Village Hall , Dryden No . 4 West Dryden Church No . 5 Town Office , Dryden . No . 6 Fire Hall , Freeville Carried and so ordered . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Shaw , that the fire insurance on the Town Office Building remain the same as previously carried . Motion carried . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Whitford , that the fire insurance be increased 42500 . 00 on the Town Garage and 41000 . 00 on the contents . Motion carried . The Board requested that the Highway Superintendent inventory the contents of the Town Garage and place a copy of same on file at the Clerk ' s office . The Hearing on regulating junk yards closed at 9 : 00 P . M . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the Town of Dryden enact and adopt the junk yard ordinance , and that the Town Clerk cause this Ordinance to be published in the Rural News and place a copy on file . Motion carried by roll call vote , all voting YES . A communication from Margaret Wilbur was read , submitting her resignation as Inspector of Election . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that her resignation be accepted . Motion carried . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that John Patterson , recommended by the Democrat committee chairman , be appointed as Election Inspector to fill the vacancy left by Mrs . Wilbur . Motion carried . A communication was road from Alvord. Baker asking to be released as Inspector of Election , due to the fact he wa s a candidate for Councilman . Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Whitford , that Mr . Baker ' s resignation br accepted . Motion carried . 191 Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that Mrs . Katherine Payne be appointed Inspector of Election to fill the vacancy left by Mr . Baker . Motion carried . Another communication from Attorney Frederick Bryant was read , asking the Board to reconsider the tabbling of the proposed ordinance • controlling auctions . Mr . Whitford was appointed to reply to this letter . A note from Betsey Clark , historian , was read , thanking the Town Board for the opportunity to attend the " Congress of Local Historians ' s held at Buffalo , N . Y . A communication was read from George Guest , reviewing his work as Building Inspector for the first half of the year . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Whitford , that Mr . Guest continue as Building Inspector for the remainder of the year at one half the present salary , or 023 . 87 monthly , as per agreement . Motion carried and so ordered . A report was read from the Varna Fire Chief reviewing work accomplished the past year . This report was accepted and . placed on file . " The next meeting of the To Board will be held on Sept . 6th . The minutes of this meeting were read and approved . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Shaw , that this meeting adjourn . Carried . .
