HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-04-05 181 April 5 , 1955 . The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held April 5 , 1955 at the Town Office Building . Present were Supervisor Downey , Superintendent of Highway , l3each , and Justices Whitford , Shaw , Spaulding and Baker . The minutes of the regular March meeting , also the special meet - Ina of March 25th , were read for information . Justice Whitford reported that he had contacted the Police Justice of Freeville regarding the railroad crossing hazard of the Werninck lumber yard . Attorney Charles Newman informed - the Board of Supervisors that no changes could be made on the assessment roll , regarding the erroneous fire tax on the . Cornell property , and the amount of same should be returned as unpaid taxes . Since no petition was filed against the resolution passed by the Town Board , providing for a one man assessor , no referendum will be held . Messrs . Hoy , 6rrispell , Feint , Poso , and Walrath were present to discuss with the Board , the repairs and changes to be made on the Gulf Hill road . Justice Whitford recommended that the Board meet at this road on April 9th at 5 : 00 P . M . , to further investigate the existing condition . This met with the approval of the members . Moved by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the General Bills , totaling 41 , 238 . 48 , and the Youth Project bills of $ 40 . 03 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote taken , all voting YES . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that the Highway bills , totaling $ 1 , 599 . 84 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all voting YeS . Supervisor Downey spoke of the new bulletin board presented to the town by Mr . John Trudeau and placed in the Town Office Bldg . Motion made by Justice Shaw , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that Justice Whitford assist the Town Clerk in writing a letter of thanks to Mr . Trudeau . Carried and so ordered . Communications were read from the Cornell University , regarding the abolition of thru truck traffic on Cornell Campus ; and from the New York State Department of Health , relative to a survey of the Finger Lakes Drainage Basin . The latter communication was to be referred to the Tompkins County Board of Sanitation . Bids on the repair of the roof at the West Dryden Church were sub - mitted by Kenneth Marble and Doll & Streeter . Justice Shaw made a 182 . motion , seconded by Justice Baker , that Mr . Marble be given a chance to survey the roof again , to apprehend if further damage had taken place , since his bid was submitted . Carried and so ordered , Justice Spaulding stated that D . B . Harrington had contacted him , regarding the condition of the creek road past his place , raft4 asking if it would be possible to have it black topped . Supervisor Downey stated that all monies for road repair Mai, this year = hlo been allocated , and that this job could not be considered until next year . . Bids on used pipe were submitted by American Pipe Supply Co . , Chemung Supply Corp . , and Wallace Steel and Supply Co . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that since the Chemung Supply Co . offered the more practical prices , the pipes be purchased from them . Carried and so ordered . Justice Spaulding brought before . the Board , the situation of a junk yard , located near D . B . " Harringtons ' property , asking if there were any restrictions to prohibit the condition . Supervisor Downey stated that he would contact Attorney Newman regarding this • matter . A communication from McMahon Bros . , relative to weed control of abondohded cemeteries , was read . Supervisor Downey , Superintendent of Highway Beach and Justices Whitford , Shaw , Spaulding and Baker were present . r After a discussion regarding the culvert on the Gulf Hill Road , Justice Whitford made the motion , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the culvert be replaced under the old road . Roll call vote taken , All voting YES . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the motion made by them to purchase gasoline and fuel oil from Tripp and Fellows be rescinded . Motion Carried . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that the Town purchase gasoline and fuel oil of Patch Brothers , under State contract . Motion Carried and so ordered . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that Kenneth Marble be given the contract to repair the roof of the West Dryden Church . Motion Carried and so ordered . Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Whitford , that the Town advertise for bidsiby contractrto replace the culvert on the Gulf Hill road , Justice Shaw to assist Supt . of Highway Beach in writing specifications for same , the bids to be at the Town Clerk ' s Office in time to be opened at the next regular Board meet - ing night . Motion Carried . The next meeting of the Dryden Town Board will be held May 3rd . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Spaulding , that meeting adjourn . Carried .
