HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-03-03 178 March 3 , 1955 . The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held March 3rd , 1955 at the Town Office Building . Present were Supervisor Downey , Justices Whitford , Shaw , Spaulding and Baker . The minutes of the February meeting, were read for information . 0ScarlJNiemi , Richard Niemi and Gerald Cooper of West Dryden were present to discuss with the Board the condition of the roof and ceiling of the West Dryden Church . A fter a discussion , Justice Whitford moved that the Supervisor act as a committee of one to con - tact contractors , who would make an investigation of the roof and give an estimate cost of the repair needed , and also for the Town to furnish material for a new ceiling , since the labor of putting it on , would be donated by interested people of the community . This motion was seconded by Justice Spaulding and carried by roll call vote , all justices voting YES . . A communication was read from A ttorney Charles Newman , concerning the fire tax upon Cornell exempt property . He advised that University lands which are exempt from general taxation , because of the educational purposes of the ?4,niversity , are also exempt from fire protection district charges . Justice Whitford offered the following resolution and asked its adoption : Resolved : That this Town Board of the Town of Dryden request the Board of Supervisors to cause the removal of the erroneous Cornell exempt property fire district tax of $ 31 . 24 from the assessment roll . Seconded by Justice Spaulding . Carried and so ordered . A letter from Attorney Newman was read y , regarding the revised deed of Arthur Prince to the roadway north from Snyder H111 road . Justice Whitford recommended that this road be investigated on the V . Spring road tour and the matter tabled until a future meeting . The members of the Town Board set March 25th as the date for the spring road tour . . Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Shaw , that the general bills , totaling 4182 . 13 , and the Youth Project bills of . $ 172 . 74 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote taken , all voting YES . Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that the Highway bills of 41918 . 05 be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all • members voting YES . Justice Whitford was appointed to contact the police Justice at Freeville village regarding this haz - ard . Justice Shaw offered the following resolution and asked its adoption : . Resolved : That from and after the 31st day of December , 1955 , there . shall be one assessor in and for the Town of • Dryden to be appointed by the Town Board in accord - ance with the provisions of Section 21 of the Town Law . This resolution is subject to a permissive- referendum , and the Town Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to post and publish a notice of the, adoption of this resolution , which shall contain an abstract of the same stating the - purpose and effect thereof , the publication and posting to be within ten days from• the date of this resolution . Baker YES " Spaulding ND Supervisor Downey - YES . • Motion was carried Justice Whitford reported on the meeting of the Association p1 Towns that he recently attended at Buffalo . • The Board decided on Tuesday evening , April 5th , as the •1next meeting night . Charles Downey , Supervisor . • 1 • 4, 180 Road Tour - March 25 , 1955 . . The annual spring road tour was made on March 25th , 1955 . Besides Supervisor Downey and Road Superintendent Beach , the Justices Baker , Spaulding and Whitford made the inspection of the roads , which included the Huff road and the Prince Extens - ion road . At 11 : 00A . M , the Board returned to the Town Office Bldg . for a short business meeting . . Moved by Justice Baker , seconded by Justice Whitford , that the Board accept the Baker Lumber Company ' s estimate bid of # 240 . 64 for the material for the ceiling of the West Dryden Church .
