May 4 , 1954 .
The regular monthly meeting of the Dryden Town Board was held
at the Town office Building on Tuesday evening May 4 , 1954 at 7 . 30 P . M .
Supervisor Downey presided with all justices present , also Supt .
of Highway Beach . •
The minutes of the last regular meeting , also the special meeting
were read for information . .
The notice of the public hearing on fire protection by the Varna
Fire Department was read .
A communication ':;fr:om She Red Patch Oil Corporation was read ,
•
asking to bid on fuel oil for the Town . It was decided to leave the
situation as it is for the present , with the possibility of converting
to gas in the near future .
A communication from the State Board of Equalization and Assess -
ments was read , relative to a new law effective April 15 , 1954 , which
subjects Trailers to taxation as real property ( Chapter 726 , Laws of 1954 )
Moved by Justice Spaulding , seconded by Justice Shaw , that the
general bills totaling $ 1073 . E7 , and the Youth Project bills of
429 . 84 „ be paid as audited . Roll call vote , all Justices voting Yes .
Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Baker , that the
Highway bills totaling 4763 . 31 , be paid as audited . Roll call vote .
All voting Yes .
Supervisor Downey gave a summary of the combined meeting of the
town board of Dryden , the town board of Groton , and the village .
board of Groton held at Groton on April 21 , 1954 , relative to the
Multiple Residence Law .
Moved by ustide Shaw , seconded by Justice Baker , that the
. Town of Drydenijoin with the Town of aroton and the Village of Groton,
. in hiring George Guest as Building Inspector - for a period of 6 months
on a trial basis . The `:total salary ofll000 . 00 for the six months ,
to be shared equally by each municipality . The other expenses to be
pro rated &,t`co the municipality using hi's services . Motion carried by
roll call vote , all voting Yes .

Supervisor Downey read the contract for fire protection
between the Town Board of Dryden and the Varna Volunteer Fire Co . Inc .
Justice Whitford offered the foll °owing resolution and asked
its adoption . •
Resolved , that this Board contract with the said Varna
Fire District for the • furnishing of fire protection to
. the territory specified in the said contract upon terms •
therein specified , and be it further resolved that the
contract as prepared by Attorneyb _ . Newman , be excuted
on behalf of this Board by the members thereof , and a
signed copy of said contract be filed with the Town Clerk .
Seconded by Justice Shaw .
Carried by roll call vote , all justices voting Yes . .
Supervisor Downey read the summary of recommendations sent
by the Department of Audit and Control in the report of examin-
ation of the Town of Dryden from January 1 , 1951 to December 31
1952 . .

Superintendent of Highway Beach filed at the Town Clerk ' s
Office a certificate of Insurance , by the Indemnity - Insurance
Company of North America , on the Mc Mahon Brothers for brush and
• weed control . .
Moved by Justice Whitford , seconded by Justice Shaw , that
Supt . of Highway Beach pay no more than 10 ¢ a yard for gravel .
Carried by roll call vote , all justices voting Yes .
Supervisor Downey stated that there had been an enactment •
of a new law , that -assessments have to be completed by
June 1st .
Mr.- . Vaughn , insurance agent , was present and explained
some points regarding the new insurance policies .
Justice Shaw offered the folioowing resolution and moved
its adoption :
Resolved : That the Superintendent of Highway notify
the Town Board of all ' claims that he reports
to the Insurance Company .
Seconded by Justice Whitford . Carried and so ordered .
The next Board meeting night to be held June 3 , 1954 .
Minutes of this meeting were read and approved .
