Sweetland presiding , Jay Maxwell present asking for welfaxe help for his Son Ernest Maxwell and also his Brother Charlie Maxwell . Letter from Fred Williams read regarding the Maxwell - old age allowance . An order for food was given to the Grand Union for Jay Maxwell and wife . Minutes of the last two meetinge were read and after recon eying the bill prev- iously presented by Cora Mount as Manager of ETna Hall for additional election . meetings . , and upon motion made by Martin Beck , seconded by Ackerman , that Etna be paid $ 35 . 00 the same as the other election districts and carried , the _ _ , minutes were approved . the roll call vate on the Etna bill was as follows : . Motion made by Ackerman and seconded by Beck authorizing theTown Clerk to reply to same , that the Town Board is . in favor of cbntinuatio n two year terms . Carried . Three applications were received for Dog enumerators for 1939 , Geo . Warner , . Wm . Ackerman , and Clyde Stevens . The Town Board met at the office of the Town Clerk Dec . 9, , for a Special Meeting . all Justices present . Supervisor Sweetland presiding . Minutes of the last meeting read and approved . Was much , as this meeting was called to discuss the finances of the H ighway Dept . , a motion was made by Beck , seconded by Cornelius to have Supt . B each come to meeting and to present him with a written copy of the following _ suggestions . I # 1 . Make no purchases without the approval of the purchasing committee . 2 . outline all work to be done and men used each week with . committee . 3 . Be onIthe job full time each day with men . 4 . Be available for snow removal at all times . , 5 . To use Town truck for town purposes only . A roll call vote was taken as follows . Ackerman Yes . , Spaulding Yes . , Baker Yes . , Cornelius Yes . , Beck Yes . , Carried . Supt . Beach came to the meeting was presented witha copy of the suggestions . Highway finances were discussed and Supt . Beach agreed to work and conoperate with the committee and Town B oard . - A motion was made and seconded to transfer ##1500 . from General Fund to H ighway Item #l , as an amendment ;to motion made at meeting Dec . 1938 . Carried . Motion made by Beck that Supervisor appoint a committee of two to work with the Supt . on purchasing and planning work done on Highways , seconded by Spaulding . Carried . Supervisor Sweetland appointed Martin Beck and H . J . Ackerman as such a committee to act untiil dissolved by the Town Board . The Town Board of the Town of Dryden met in the office of the Town Clerk Dec . 28th . , 1938 , to settle accounts with the Supervisor E . R . Sweetland . Justices Ackerman , Spaulding , Beck , Baker , and Cornelius were present . Upon motion made and seconded , Justice Cornelius acted as chairman . Mrs . Edith Hutchinson appeared before . the Board and asked for Town Welfare aid . A motion was made by Beck and seconded by Ackerman that Supervisor "Sweetland accompany Mrs . Hutchinson to the County Welfare Office - and take up tie matter of Town Aid with Mr . Williams , andif the Town Can legally give aid to Mrs . Hutchinson to do so . - - Carried . . Upon motion made and seconded meeting was adjourned at 9 . 30 Y . M . K Dec . 29th . 1938 . The Town Board of the Town of Dryden met in the office of the Town Clerk Dec . 29th . , 1938 . , to continue checking accounts of the Supervsor . A motion was made by Beck , seconded by Ackerman to nominate waiter Kinch for appointment of Welfare Officer for 1939 . Also motion made by Cornelius seconded by Spaulding to nominate Roy Hungerford , motion made by Ackerman , seconded by Cornelius to nominate A . J . Hines . Motion made by Beck , seconded by Spaulding nominations be closed . A vote by ballot was taken with the resultz Hungerford 2 , Hines 2 , Kinch 16. Supervisor Sweetland voting to break tie with the result that Arthur Hines received the appointment for Welfare officer for 1939 .
