HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-07-25DRC 2012 -07 -25 Page 1 of 2 Town of Dryden Dryden Recreation Commission July 25, 2012 Members Present: Sharon Todd, Jeff Humphrey (Chair), Vicki Wilkins, Monica Armstrong, and Steve Meyer Community Association Member: Wendy Martin Town Board Representatives: Linda Levine and Steve Stelick, Jr. (absent) Town Recreation Director: Melissa Bianconi Dryden CSD Liaison: Billie Downs (absent) Recording Secretary: Anna Belcher Meeting called to order at 7:03 PM Reading of the Commission's Minutes: Postponed till next meeting Recognition of guests and community communications: Anna Belcher was welcomed as the new minutes' recorder Community Centers monthly update: Wendy Martin Some members feel the community center isn't interested in the recreation board because they are diversifying money Etna is the third area considered for playground development Town Recreation Department update — Melissa Bianconi Bianconi explains that the field trips are going well. Flyers were put into Todis pizza boxes to help build the field trips, the field trips arte to parks and the zoo. "The Muppets" will be playing this weekend at the VFW at about 9 o'clock First week for music in the park had about 60 people and last week had about 100 people. The Prophets are playing tonight. Two shuttles at Willow Brooke and one shuttle at the Hotel help transport people. There was some discussion that the sign could use some improvement. Bianconi explains that the print advertising has fallen a bit behind, but radio advertising went really well. Concussion talk will go on at the YFL (Youth Football League) meeting on August 8 in Lansing. DRC and DYC Merger Update: Bianconi explained how she read the DYC's comments and created a document by taking the recreation commission's enabling legislation and tweaked it to include youth commission language, leaving room for suggestions. She suggested how she felt it should be an 11 member commission. She sent the document to the Town Board. Bianconi explains that the DYC wants to have as big as a role in making sure youth development is as equal and focused in the new group as it is now. There was some discussion on the grant application. A progress report in December was suggested. Bianconi wants to revamp the application and asked other members for help. ® Dryden Lake Festival Plans DRC 2012 -07 -25 Page 1 of 2 Wilkins talks about all the different activities that will take place at the festival. The Kidzone is behind the pavilion, which will be similar to a carnival. There: will be a bounce house, two tents, many games and possibly face painting_ Prize for the games will consist of school supplies. The festival vwilI begin at noon and end around 6 PM on Saturday, One tent will have quiet stuff like care games and coloring books. The Board members discussed when they would be able to help out at the festival, Dryden Cental School Oisirict Lkdson monthly update - Billie Downs No report ]Next steps for park development (Master Plan) in Town The Board wants to pick one more design location. A suggestion was made to utilize the planning department to create the next drawing, The long term goal is for all three designs to be cornpletcd, focus on one design, see what is in the reserve fund, and take the next step in finishing the park. Montgomery Funds Update= Armstrong explained that there are community funds that the Board needs to approve to use towards Montgomery Park. The Board wants to see a conceptional drawing before money is used. Schug Trail There was some discussion abouir the condition of the SchQgTrail. Bianconi explained that there are members of the Conservation Board that had ideas for signs and wanted to work with the 12cereation Commission. J, Hum phm.y motioned to adjourn; W.
