Guests: Dryden Recreation Commission (DRC) Monthly Meedng Minutes Monday, 9/20/2004 - 6:OOpm — Red Dragon, Cortland, N Matty Harrel- Chair, Lisa Stelick, Tracy Kurtz, Ron Space Ralph Boettger, Bill Finnerty, Jim Wood Present — Steve Stelfck, Jr. Absent — Jennifer Glaab (working per diem from Tennessee) =none- NOTE: This month the meeting was held at the Red Dragon in Cortland because after our monthly meeting we traveled across the street to the Park Center (Ice Skating Rink - upstairs classroom) to meet with a SONY Cortland Recreation Class and the Associate Professor, Sharon Todd. This class annually prepares needs assessments for interested local businesses in the area of recreation. Sharon had contacted Matty and Jennifer regarding the Town of Dryden Recreation Commission's interest in working with this years class. Meeting called to order at 6:00pm. 1. 8 2004 Meoti ng Minutes - moved by Matty, seconded by Ron. Approved 4 -0 -8, 2, Recreation Coordinator Position: Jennifer Glaab is still acting Town Recreadon Coordinator on a per diem basis working from Tennessee via phone, internst, and mail'. The Town also agreed to keep Eric Hoffman, the summer intern, on the Town payroll through at least 11/50/2004 on a part -time basis, He is doing the "leg work" for Jennifer Glaab. 3, FLecreation Cv_ordinator interviews: Interviews went well, nice pool' of candidates, 7 candidates interviewed, the 81h candidate withdrew. The interview committee unanimously agreed to appoint Jennifer Staton to fi N the vacancy. Jennifer is relocating to our area from Virginia. Jennifer wil11 be in Monda 10/11/04. 9 Y+ 4, Steve updated the DRC on the current status of Tompkins County's commitment to continue support for the Tom Pkins County Recreation Partnership Program, 5, DRC Membership: - Two () slots currently vacant; 1. R. Kowalski slot (Term expires 12/2005); 2. A. Grant slot (terra expires 12/2006) - Three (3) Terms expiring end of December, 2004: Bill Finnerty, Matty Hamel, Jim Wood. Matty stated she will not be serving for another term. We need tc receive Bi1I & 1 m's intent to serve another term. - Possible membership interest from Don Scutt, Ralph Shorted, Sharon Todd, possibly Aran Hotchkin {Steve S. to make inquiry with Ann) & possibly Tracy's neighbor. Please remind interested folks to submit their letter of interest to DRC Secretary, Lisa Stelick. their letter of interest should state their interest in serving on the DRC, their experiences, acrd how they can contribute to the DRC active membership. (Note: Sharon Todd expressed her interest, however, she cannot meet Monday's as she teaches on Monday's � can DRC meet the Tuesday evening prior to the Town Board meeting ?) 6. Steve mentioned that he received a status note from Senator Seward letting him know that the funds the Village & Town requested for this project are still in the proposed State budge( however, no funds can be assigned /released until the Mate budget is signed. UPDATE: On 9128/04 Steve received notice from Senator Seward stating that $2,500 was included in the 2004-05 Mate budget at the Senator's request, for funding an upgrade to our recreational Meld. The process is now in the hands of the Village of Dryden who will be receiving contract dacument5 in about 4 weeks. Apparently it is a lengthy procedure. The Vflfage must complete and return the paperwork immediately to begin the process. Looks like we get the money if the paperwork process run's smoothly. 8. Welcome Reception for Jennifer Staton. Consensus was that we would like to do this again. Aim for a date in November. Tracy & Lisa will work on scheduling a date /location (ANY SUGGESTIONS & OFFERS TO HELP?). Lisa will contact Ann Grant to see if she'll help coordinate tyre refreshments again as she did such a fabulous jots for Jennifer GIaab's reception. 9. Annual SUNY Cortland Recreation Conference; 11/4- 11/5/04. It was thought that in addition to Jennifer Staton attending if possible, DRC members should, if they could, attend so we can spread out to corer more topics. Fee: $45- Thurs. only; $50 -Fri. only; $60 -both days) fee includes meals. Registrations received after 10/15/04 -add $10 extra, Agenda: 11/4 runs 7:30- 8:30registration, programs 8:30 -4:45 (auction & live entertainment follows if you're interested). 115 runs 7:30- 8:30registration, programs 8:30 -4:00. Usa obtained various Town maps from Deb Gross, the Town's Environmental Planner, in addition to the 2000 TOD Land Use Survey Results & pages from the TOD Draft Comprehensive Plan having to do with recreation that will aid us in our discussion with the students. Plifteting Ad'ourned 7:30pm so we could travel to the SUNY Cortland Park Center for the 7:45prn meeting with the recreation class. NEXT ME NG.
