Office (in the Dryden School temE)orary District O,lice downstairs conference room) isMembers Present: Matty Hamel- Chair, Ann Grant, Ron Space, Lisa Stelick, Tracy Kurtz Members Absent: Jim Wood, Ralph Boettger, Bill Finnerty, Russ Kowalski Town Board Rep Present: Steve Stelick, Jr. Town Rec. Coord. Present: Jennifer Glaab Guests: none Meeting called to order at 6:35pm Welcomed Tracy Kurtz to the DRC l . Approved 2/9/2004 minutes with change to 6,c as follows: "...with suggestion they donate the tree to the Town for beautification (donate when tree is ready for planting)." Moved by Tracy, Ron seconded. Vote unanimous 2. Reviewed 2004 Goals a. Ann spoke of bulletin boards: Brought 2 samples to share with .DRC. l large for Toads, 1 small for Town Hall. TCTC -Dryden Branch said their maintenance staff will hang the Board when we're ready; Dryden Vets will be voting on us having one there; waiting on Freeville & Dryden fire depts., to get back to Ann; Steve has an upcoming meeting with Varna Fire Dept. -will mention it to them & Jen will talk to Freeville Fire Dept.. Etna, Bethal Grove, and Varna Conununity Center still in process. b. Steve reported on Facilities. Town is interested in possibly purchasing the Dryden Golf Course. DRC discussed fabulous recreational possibilities if this transaction were to occur. Steve also had a recent meeting with TC3 and the possibility of sharing open space for fields is still in the works. Status of Comprehensive Plan appears to still need a lot of work. Would be good for the Rec. Coord. and DRC Rep. to bring input to the Town Planning Board. : 077`: At the Feb. 1 otirn Board meeting, Lisa spoke �s ith To sin 1.:>tvironnrental Planner, Debbie Cross who welcomed input from the DRC for the Comprehensive Plan and suggested the Rec. Coord. & DRC Rep. attend a planning board meeting to discuss facilin-olopen space recreational needy. Lisa relayed info, to Jen. Jen ►till plan on attending a future Planning? Board meeth g with a DRC rep.j C. Jen reported that Wall Street sub, committee has had 1 meeting. Still working on costs for fence & dirt. Goal is to start in Spring. Planned dig day is on 3127/2004. Next sub. Committee meeting is 3/10/04 ct Rec. Dept. office. Steve hopes to contact Senator Seward for possible State grant money for this project. d. Rec. & DRC visibility using Rec. website: Jen states there is a link from the Town's website to DRC not Rec's. website, Jen will post DRC info. for now. e. Steve reported on Rec. Partnership annual review meeting. Finance was the biggest item (concern of loosing County funding — about $38,000 -Dryden Town pays approx. $11,000). if County backs out, means larger fmancial burden on Towns. Rec. Partnership looking at obtaining corporate sponsorships to help offset costs. f. Financial: Tabled until Russ is present, However, Jen shared info. about two grants she received info. on that she'd like to share with Russ (i . For Music Programs -due 419/04 2. for various rec. areas). Jen has some experience in grant waiting and will proceed if it's thought to be worthwhile. g. Alt. Funding Sub, Committee: Steve reported on the Town looking to hire Thoma Development Grant Writers. Thoma is working on a needs assessment with Town depts. to identify needs. Jen to meet with Thoma re: Rec. Dept. needs /goals. h. Portfolio Info.: Purpose is to collect current demographics of the town (check w/ Bambi, Town Clerk), and develop the history of the Rec. Dept, and rec_ goals to assist in grant writing. Matty will work on gathering info. and relaying the info. to Jen for her to use in dept. grants opportunities and to share with Thonta Development. I . Membership Guideline Document: 2 changes made. Moved to approve by Lisa, Seconded by Ann. No discussion, passed unanimous. Page 1 of 2 DRC 3/8/04 minutes Cont. 3, Feedback from 219/04 meeting items: a. DRC presence at Town Board Meetings: Lisa suggested DRC remain at meeting until after the Rec. Coord. report to give support if needed. She also reminded DRC members to sign -up on the sheet to speak during public forum if there is a DRC topic to present. Because Russ wasn't able to attend today's DRC mtg., Lisa volunteered to attend and report if necessary at the 3 /11 Town Bd. Meeting. Tracy volunteered to attend the 5/13 meeting. Future: Apr 8: Ron May 13: Tracy Jim 10: Jim Jul 8: Ann Aug 12: Sep 9: Oct 14: _ Nov 11: _ Dec 9: _ b. Financial legalese feedback as to what DRC can /can't do: Town Attorney Mahlon is out of Town. (NOTE: would Jeri (as a Town emplovee) get advice/opinion from Mahlon and relay to Russ & DRC so this sub. Committee can move forward ?) C. Dryden Dairy Day: Scheduled for 6/12/2004. Ann will sign -up DRC to run a game booth. DRC now has to come up with idea, supplies, and manpower. (NOTE: anyone want to run with this ? ?) d. Permanent Bathroom at Montgomery Park: Lisa reported that she spoke with Jack Bush (Town Highway Supt.) and Reba Bush (Dryden Village Mayor). Both thought this was a good idea. Jack deferred decision to Dryden Village stating the Town would help through municipal cooperation. Reba stated that she would discuss the idea with John( ?)Bradley (Village Dept. of Public Works) and get back to me. (NOTE: Lisa will continue working on this) e. Preorder potted pine trees fundraiser. thought perhaps this could be a student project aimed at community beautification. (NOTE: anyone want to run with this ? ?) f TC3 Canoes: Tabled until Jim gets back to us on rack costs g. School Break Events: Jeri reported it could happen if there were people to run the events. (NOTE: anyone want to run with this ? ?) 4. Rec. Coord. Monthly Rpt.: Jeri handed out and reported on the Rec. Partnership Spring Brochure, Town Rec. Dept. Monthly Report, Town Rec. 2004 Spring event flyer. Jeri reported on the two student intems she has working with her at 120 hours each. Eric is coordinating a band concert to be held at the Dryden Elem, School. An Ithaca College Band "The Shanty Band" will be the feature band and he's working on securing a local teen back to open for them. Carlos is working on the Rec. offerings survey. Over 120 surveys were returned, Both Eric & Carlos will be helping with the Town's 2 "d annual Egg Hunt on St. 4/10/04,1pm @ Montgomery Park. Free to boys & girls ages 8 and under. Bring basket or bag to collect eggs. Come help stuff the eggs Fri., 4/9104, 7pm at Dryden Fire Hall. Contact Jen if you or someone you know would like to heft during the event ( "hiding" the eggs & running the games). Jeri also reported that the Conservation Corp. is accepting summer project ideas now to schedule for the students to work on over the summer. (NOTE: submit ideas to Jeri who will relay tote CC.) In my brief conversation with Reba Qq the Town Bd. Mg. she mentioned a couple of ideas the Village might have for the CC summer student projects -could Jen check with Reba?
