Dear Sir:
The Town of Ithaca is presently installing sewer mains
in Elm Street, Glenside (off Five Mile Drive, Rt. 13A) , Codding-
ton Road, Slaterville Road, and Forest Home. Some of the areas
are now completed. It is the homeowner's responsibility to con
nect his sewer to the 4-inch stub left by the conractor. We
estimate there will be approximately 100 hook-ups starting now
and continuing into next spring.
The laterals must be installed according to the City of
Ithaca's plumbing code and will be inspected by the City Plumbing
Inspector. There is no charge for inspection outside the cellar
wall. The City code requires 4-inch sewer laterals. Class 2400
AC Pipe in 5 ft. lengths. Bedding will be required where muddy
or in rock, then bedded in #2 washed gravel or crushed stone.
Grade 1/4-inch per foot; minimum grade 1/8-inch per foot at a
normal depth of 4 ft.; cleanout every 75 feet using transite with
a metal cap. Vent outside cellar wall with cleanout on street side
of vent.
We are asking all local contractors to quote in accord
ance with the specifications on the attached sheet. No re-seeding
is included and all excavated material will be replaced over the
ditch. The contractor with the lowest responsible quote, in the
opinion of the Committee, will be the one who will be recommended
to the homeowners who are installing sewer laterals.
The bids on the attached sheet are to include excavation
and material replaced over the ditch. A Certificate of Insurance
will be required which will include $500,000 Public Liability and
Property Damage, Compensation as required by New York State, and
New York State Disability.
Quotes will be opened by the Committee in the Town of
Ithaca Board room at 12:00 o'clock noon on Wednesday, August 30,
1978.
Yours very truly,
Walter J. Schwan (Tel. 273-9260)
