TOWN OF ITHACA
Public Works Committee Minutes
June 26, 2001, Highway Facility
Present: David Klein, Chairperson; Fred Noteboom; Dan Walker; Wayne
Sincebaugh; and Gene Redman.
Guests: Mike Smith
The meeting began at 8:10 a.m.
The minutes from April will be approved at the next meeting.
Highway RFP
Fred Noteboom informed the Committee that he has called a few references from some
of the RFP's that where handed in.
We received six proposals and we would like to narrow it down to three.
Each proposal was discussed and the Committee came up with three firms to look into.
Now the Highway Department staff will set up appointments to look at some of the
firm's work, check references, and then contact the firms for interviews.
Truck Tractor Bids
Fred informed the Committee that we received three bids on Monday and has not had
time to review them closely. The Highway Department staff will review them and
recommend to the Town Board which one is best. This will go to the July Town Board
meeting.
Maple Avenue Update
Fred informed the Committee that the Town has received confirmation that the funding
for the Maple Avenue project is available. Fred also talked to Suit-Kote (who was the
lowest bidder) and they are willing to honor the prices in their bid, although they will
not be able to work on the project until September.

Slaterville Road
Dan Walker explained that the Ewings (the residents who are having most of the
problem in the area) would like to have the Town put riprap farther up the hill. Dan
informed the Committee that NYSEG would need to move a gas main for this to
happen.
We are hoping to bid this project out in August.
West Hill Water Project
Dan said that the bid specifications were sent out this week.
Dan said that the City of Ithaca Planning has suggested that a road may be built where
the building was going to go. We may have to alter the plans, although we do not
believe this will effect the bid specifications.
Kings Way
Fred talk to Tompkins County Highway to see if a resolution had been passed (by
Tompkins County Board of Representatives) turning the old E. King Road over to the
Town. There has been no resolution.
Fred has talked to Cathy Valentino about this and we will continue with the public
hearing although we may not act on accepting the road yet.
Hanshaw Road Back Lot Sewer
The pre-construction meeting for this project is set for Thursday June 28, 2001. The
contractor will start work on July 9, 2001.
We believe that John Barney (Town Attorney) is still working on the final agreement
with the Beyenbach's.
The Highway Department received a letter regarding a tree at 1026 Hanshaw Road.
They are authorizing the Town to take down an extra tree.
Texas Lane
During a recent heavy rainfall,Dan looked at the drainage problems on Texas Lane and
at the Dewitt Retention Pond. Dan said that we might want to put in a smaller outlet in
the pond.
Public Work Committee Meeting,June 26,2001 Page 3
The drainage system in the Northeast area needs to be looked into again.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
