HomeMy WebLinkAboutPWC Minutes 2008-09-23 DISPOSITION DATE P14/11/ : TOWN OF ITHACA Public Works Committee September 23, 2008, 9:00 a.m. Town Hall Present: Peter Stein, Bill Goodman, Dan Walker, Fred Noteboom, Rich Schoch, and Mike Smith Guest: Tee Ann Hunter and Marnie Kirchgessner The meeting began at 9:05 a.m. The August 26, 2008, meeting minutes were approved. Community Gardens Tee Ann Hunter explained that there is an area on West Hill within parkland that would possibly be a good place for a community garden. Peter Stein asked what a community garden is. Tee Ann explained that people can rent lots and plant flowers and vegetables in them. Tee Ann explained that there is a fire hydrant near there and possibly it could be used for watering plants. The group of people proposing this garden would like to see if there is funding so a deer fence could be put up. The Committee talked about possibly putting a picnic table or bench there. The Committee felt this was a good idea. Marne Kirchgessner will look into funding for the fencing. Judd Falls Road Easement When the State rebuilt Route 366,Judd Falls Road was realigned and a walkway was established. At the time of the rebuild, the State and the Town agreed that the Town would take ownership. The State would draw up all the easements, etc. This will now be going to the Town Board at their October meeting. After looking at the map, Bill Goodman questioned where the fourth parcel was. The fourth parcel is for maintenance. ç ,, ju1ic Works Committee Minutes, September 23, 2008 Page 2 ;k ' Troy Road Hunting Proposal from Cornell University Rich Schoch explained that Cornell University has a pilot program to help control deer population. They have property near Troy Road adjacent to where the Town has a water tank. The Town has an easement from Cornell University for access to the site. Cornell is proposing a'permitted hunting area there. There would only be three hunters at a time and the cars would have parking permits. This program would only be for archery only during regular archery and shotgun season. The Committee decided that nothing was required of the Town Board. The Committee asked that we include this topic in the Public Works Department's monthly Board report. Sewer Guidelines Peter indicated that he used the sewer guidelines for the E. King Road project and the Grippi sewer problem. He felt the guideline worked well. Dan Walker indicated that there is a petition to put sewer on East Shore Drive and Coddington Road. There were some small changes made to the form. Town Hall Roof Update Dan said that the metal is OK but the rubber part of the roof is leaking. There is a product that is a rubber coating that would cost around $20,000 with a 10 year guarantee. This coating is applied and is only 1/8" thick. Dan will continue to get more information regarding this. Meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m. ghk
