ITEM 1 ZBAA-23-7 Appeal of Cornell University, Owner of 131 Acer Dr; is seeking
relief from Town of Ithaca Code section 270-254 (Residential and Conservation Zones) for
a proposal to install signs that would exceed an aggregate sign area of 100 square feet and
such individual sign(s) would exceed 50 square feet per sign, and exceed the maximum
freestanding sign height of 6 feet maximum, and such sign is proposed to be internally
illuminated, where it is not allowed to be internally illuminated in the Residential and
Conservation Zones.
Mr. Squires asked if applicants were present and noted that Leslie Schill was in attendance on
Zoom
It was noted that on part one of the SEQR on number 9 that it was check no for the energy code
requirements and it should be changed to N/A
Ms. Schill gave an overview presentation on the proposal to install Signs in the baseball complex
an internally lighted score board and wraps over the wind screens, she also went over the height
of such signs as well as the square footage of them.
She also pointed out that they will be repurposing their Hoy Field Scoreboard. Which has a long-
standing history with Cornell baseball. They plan to move it to the new Booth Field and reuse it,
as it is still in good condition. Ms. Schill mentioned since the scoreboard has interior lighting and
games take place during the day that it would be very hard to see any lights from the scoreboard
unless you're in the complex.
