HomeMy WebLinkAboutZBA Minutes 2023-06-13MEETING OF THE TOWN OF ITHACA Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday June 13, 2023 Minutes Present: Board Members David Squires, Chair; Chris Jung, Connor Terry, and Kim Ritter Absent: Mark Apker and Stuart Friedman Dana Magnuson, Codes Enforcement; Ashley Colbert, Deputy Town Clerk; and Susan Brock, Attorney for the Town Mr. Squires opened the meeting at 6:05 p.m. ITEM 1 ZBAA-23-7 Appeal of Cornell University, Owner of 131 Acer Dr; is seeking relief from Town of Ithaca Code section 270-254 (Residential and Conservation Zones) for a proposal to install signs that would exceed an aggregate sign area of 100 square feet and such individual sign(s) would exceed 50 square feet per sign, and exceed the maximum freestanding sign height of 6 feet maximum, and such sign is proposed to be internally illuminated, where it is not allowed to be internally illuminated in the Residential and Conservation Zones. Mr. Squires asked if applicants were present and noted that Leslie Schill was in attendance on Zoom It was noted that on part one of the SEQR on number 9 that it was check no for the energy code requirements and it should be changed to N/A Ms. Schill gave an overview presentation on the proposal to install Signs in the baseball complex an internally lighted score board and wraps over the wind screens, she also went over the height of such signs as well as the square footage of them. She also pointed out that they will be repurposing their Hoy Field Scoreboard. Which has a long- standing history with Cornell baseball. They plan to move it to the new Booth Field and reuse it, as it is still in good condition. Ms. Schill mentioned since the scoreboard has interior lighting and games take place during the day that it would be very hard to see any lights from the scoreboard unless you're in the complex. ZBA Resolution ZBAA-23-7: SEQR Area Variance, Signs 131 Acer Dr, TP 62.-2-4 Resolved that this Board makes a negative determination of environmental significance based on the information in the Parts I and 2 and for the reasons stated in the Part 3 environmental assessment form.
