2023 Spring Brush and Leaf Pickup
Public Works Crews will be picking up brush and bagged yard waste (leaves, pine needles, dead flowers,
garden waste, and grass clippings) beginning on Monday, April 17th until finished. All yard waste must
be at the roadside by 7 a.m. on April 17th. There are NO second collections or call backs.
Roadside collection crews reserve the right to not pick up excessively large volumes of brush or
improperly piled materials. Clearing of building lots and hedgerows is beyond a normal amount of material.
No vacuum is used and yard waste must be in paper bags, no plastic bags will be picked up.
WHAT TO DO
• Bag leaves, garden, and other yard waste in biodegradable paper bags. Fill bags and place them on
road shoulder. Fold over openings of bags to close – do not staple or tape. 30-gallon bags are available
at Agway, Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, and Wegman’s along with other stores in the area.
• Brush should be placed in neat piles going with the flow of traffic so that the chipping trucks can feed
the cut ends first.
• Brush piles should be no larger than a pickup truck load (approximately 2’ H x 4’ W x 8’ L in size). It is
not necessary to cut limbs into small pieces.
• Put out limbs no larger than 8 inches in diameter.
• Place brush and filled bags of yard waste along road shoulder or at the end of the driveway if no shoulder
exists.
WHAT NOT TO DO
• Do not tie bundles of brush.
• Do not place any materials in a ditch.
• Do not put out metal, rocks, glass, roots, stumps, or lumber scraps.
• Do not put brush and leaf bags out until the week before collection.
For more information, please call 273-1656 between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Yard waste drop off for residents is available year-round at the Public Works Facility, 114 Seven Mile Drive,
Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. Sign in at the office first!
Town’s Continuing Commitment to Our Green New Deal:
Take Part in Electrify Ithaca
To meet our Green New Deal decarbonization goal of Net-Zero by 2030 we need to electrify all our
buildings. This means replacing fossil fuel infrastructure with electric equivalents such as heat pumps,
geo-thermal options, and air sealing to ensure conditioned air is kept indoors.
The Town and City have partnered with BlocPower to provide competitive financing for electrification of
residential and commercial buildings. Property owners and managers are encouraged to participate.

Pollinator Preservation
Developing a Pollination Garden
We’ve heard a lot about the climate crisis, but the biodiversity crisis is deeply linked to climate change. Bees,
butterflies, and beetles (to name only a few insects in peril) pollinate plants, enrich the soil and provide a
source of protein for species further up the food chain. The impact on a single plant species from a lack of
pollination can create a chain effect impacting other species.
The Conservation Board will be providing information on how to establish and promote pollinator-friendly
habitats and spaces on your property with ideas and tips on a variety of native plants that provide food for the
insects that we need to support in their role in the food chain.
In order for us to reach as many people as effectively as possible, please take a minute to answer our Pollinator
Survey (Only 4 Questions!). We encourage you to share this with your neighbors and friends since providing
a “corridor” or “pathway” enables pollinators to efficiently access food and habitat.
