Town of Ithaca Conservation Board Activities &
Accomplishments for 2014
Awarded its Richard B. Fischer Environmental Award to the Finger Lakes
Native Plant Society and held the associated tree planting ceremony
along the Town’s South Hill Recreation Way;
Environmental Review Committee continued to provide comments for
site plan and subdivision projects and conducted site visits to many of
the projects;
Hosted a Swallow‐wort and Garlic Mustard education and eradication
event in the Town’s East Ithaca Nature Preserve as part of the NYS’s
Invasive Species Awareness Week;
Prepared an article for the Town newsletter regarding the Conservation
Board’s 2013 award from NYS Association of Conservation Commissions;
Prepared the “Deer in Ithaca: An updated review of science and a call for
action” report and provided it to the Town Board;
Provided comments regarding the Town’s Draft Comprehensive Plan
and the DGEIS;
Continued to update and monitor the Conservation Board Facebook
page (http://www.facebook.com/IthacaConservationBoard);
Continued to discuss water rates in the Town and potential energy
conservation ideas for public outreach.
