Accomplishments for 2013
Awarded its Richard B. Fischer Environmental Award to Cornell
Plantations Natural Areas Program and held the associated tree
planting ceremony along the Town’s East Ithaca Recreation Way;
Environmental Review Committee continued to provide comments
for site plan and subdivision projects and conducted site visits to
many of the projects;
The interpretative sign panel at East Shore Park was installed;
Prepared articles for the Town newsletter regarding the East Shore
Park sign panel and water use & greenhouse gas emissions;
Held a public meeting, met with landowners, and worked with the
Town Board to get the Southwest Glens and Creeks Conservation
Zone adopted;
Prepared the “Conservation Board recommendations for a Town of
Ithaca Pest Management Policy” white paper and provided it to the
Town Board (Public Works Committee);
Prepared a scenic views tour brochure for the Town;
Initiated discussions regarding the Solarize Tompkins program and
deer management efforts in Tompkins County;
Continued to update and monitor the Conservation Board Facebook
page (http://www.facebook.com/IthacaConservationBoard);
Continued to discuss water rates in the Town and potential water
conservation ideas for public outreach.
