Town of Ithaca Conservation Board Activities &
Accomplishments for 2015
Awarded its Richard B. Fischer Environmental Award to the Six Mile
Creek Water Quality Monitors at the Community Science Institute and
held the associated tree planting ceremony at the Town’s Grandview
Park;
Environmental Review Committee continued to provide comments for
site plan and subdivision projects;
Hosted a Swallow-wort and Garlic Mustard education and eradication
event at the Town’s water tank near the end of Teton Court as part of the
NYS’s Invasive Species Awareness Week;
Prepared an article for the Town newsletter regarding seeking new
members;
Continued to discuss deer management ideas for the Town, had
presentation from Bernd Blossey (Cornell University, Department of
Natural Resources), and prepared letter and materials for the Town
Board;
Continued to update and monitor the Conservation Board Facebook page
(http://www.facebook.com/IthacaConservationBoard);
Continued to discuss water rates in the Town, potential energy
conservation ideas for public outreach, and long term water planning for
the Ithaca area.
