TO: CONSERVATION BOARD MEMBERS
FROM: MICHAEL SMITH, SENIOR PLANNER
DATE: DECEMBER 23, 2015
SUBJECT: UPCOMING CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING – JANUARY 7, 2016
This is to confirm that the next meeting of the Conservation Board (CB) is Thursday,
January 7th at 5:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is enclosed (see the back of this
memo). The draft minutes from the November 5, 2015 and December 3, 2015 meetings
were not available for the mailout.
At this meeting, we will take some time to discuss the work priorities and various
committee assignments for 2016. Included in the materials is the draft “Conservation
Board 2016 Work Goals” which the CB will need to review and discuss what changes
are necessary for 2016. I have also included a copy of the “Natural Resources and
Environment” and “Energy and Climate Protection” goals and recommendations
sections from the Town’s 2014 Comprehensive Plan, which may help in the discussion
of upcoming goals for the CB. Also attached is the draft “Conservation Board
Committees 2016” list. Please review this list and be thinking about what changes you
would like to see for 2016.
As part of the continued discussion on deer management, I have attached information
regarding two deer management webinars coming up on January 20th and 27th and the
executive summary from the draft Environmental Assessment for “White-Tailed Deer
Damage Management in New York”. Additional information on both of these were
previously provided by email.
We will also begin a discussion on the use of goats as an environmentally friendly weed
and invasive species control.
Since we didn’t have a quorum at the December meeting, the CB will still need to
approve nominations for the 2016 Chair and Vice-Chair positions along with the 2016
meeting schedule.
We will need a volunteer to take minutes at the January meeting. I will bring a new
sign-up sheet for the 2016 minutes.
If you have any questions prior to the meeting or are not able to attend, please contact
me at msmith@town.ithaca.ny.us or 607-273-1747.
