HomeMy WebLinkAboutConservation Board 2017 Work Goals Conservation Board 2017 Work Goals a) Support implementation of the Town's new Comprehensive Plan, to make sure it promotes environmental conservation. b) Continue involvement in natural areas and in the enactment of new conservation zones, including the East Shore Drive Conservation Zone. c) Install the next view sign in that project series at Longview's Danby Road scenic pull-off. Promote awareness of importance of scenic resources. Start planning and designing the 3rd view sign proposed for along Pine Tree Road. d) Promote proactive pest management on Town properties. Provide additional research requested by the Town’s Public Works Committee regarding the white paper on pest control. Continue to work on issues related to pests such as White Tail Deer, Emerald Ash Borer, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, Japanese Knotweed, and Swallow-wort, etc. Educate residents and municipal staff on need for pest management action. e) Continue outreach projects, including Facebook page and newsletter articles to encourage and foster more public participation in conservation of our resources and environment. Explore the use of other social media services, such as Twitter and/or Instagram. f) Attend to Bolton Point's electricity consumption for water pumping; help implement action to reduce energy used for water distribution via new water pricing structure and public education. g) Continue ongoing activities such as Fischer Award and Environmental Review Committee reports to Planning Board. Respond to Town Board requests. h) Promote non-automobile infrastructure in the Town, including trails, walkways, bikeways. Support the extension of the South Hill Recreation Way. i) Participate in a local Earth Day event (April 22nd) j) Refurbish 25 bluebird boxes along the South Hill and East Ithaca Recreation Ways and in Eastern Heights Park, and search for groups or individuals to help with continued maintenance and annual cleaning. k) Conduct a year-end review of goals and accomplishments.
