Our Parks are for everyone - Leash Law
It is important that we all respect each other and our surroundings when sharing public spaces.
The Town of Ithaca manages many wonderful parks and trails where residents can enjoy the
outdoors to participate in leisure activities such as recreational sports, walking, jogging, biking,
and picnicking.
Dogs are welcome to accompany their families on outings to the town’s parks and trails, but
please, follow the town’s leash law and be mindful that some people are fearful of dogs.
The leash law requires all dogs be on a leash and under your control when not on your own
property. The law is there to protect both you and others.
Off leash, your pet might encounter something harmful: a beehive, a deep hole, a polluted puddle
of standing water, a dead animal, or even a wild one, you can’t anticipate everything that could
happen.
Loose dogs can frighten other people who are afraid of dogs. Not everyone-including other dogs-
loves your dog the way you do. Dogs that jump up playfully for attention can cause injury,
especially to elderly and young people, who might not be able to withstand such a greeting.
The dog park at Treman State Marine Park is a great place for dogs to run & play off leash.
Pesticide use – Lawn Care
The conservation board urges residents to consider pesticide alternatives in their own home lawn
care. A great source of information is the Cornell gardening site and for other ways to create a
healthy lawn without pesticides visit http://hdl.handle.net/1813/3574

DMV – Keep the Money LOCAL
Transactions by mail
Many people don’t realize that if you renew at the County level instead of online or mailing
forms back to the State, the County keeps a larger portion of the fees. Our DMV has a very user-
friendly website at https://www2.tompkinscountyny.gov/dmv . If you just google it, it may take
you to the NYS site, so please, make sure you get to the local site and keep the taxes local!
