Town of Ithaca Conservation Board
International Compost Awareness Week, May 2nd – 8th with a Local Challenge
EAT...COMPOST…Repeat. Organics
recycling plays a key role in keeping materials
out of landfills. Tompkins County Recycling
has made it easy for residents to collect and
recycle their food scraps. Kudos to you if you
are one of the many saving money on trash
tags by bringing your food scraps to one of the
nearby Drop Spots.
As part of International Compost Awareness
Week, May 2 - 8, let us challenge ourselves to
divert even more organic waste from our trash
cans to compost.
1) At home stop tossing compostable food scraps in your trash.
2) Food Scrap Caddies and compostable bag liners are available free at any Drop Spot or use
your own alternative collection and transport containers.
3) All food scraps collected at the Drop Spots are processed by Cayuga Compost and available
for sale at several local retailers for your garden/landscaping.
4) Find a Drop Spot nearby and additional information under composting at:
recycletompkins.org
Compost is an important part of protecting the environment by decreasing the need for fertilizer
and pesticides and improving and maintaining high quality soil for healthy plants, improving
water quality with less chemicals in the soil and stormwater runoff, and less landfill mass.
Information about making and using compost: http://ccetompkins.org/gardening/composting
The Conservation Board meets the first Thursday of the month, 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
All meetings are open to the public and attendance is encouraged.

The Centennial Continues - The Friends of Robert H. Treman State Park
1920 was the year Robert and Laura Treman donated
the land that became Enfield Glen State Park,
(renamed in his honor posthumously in 1938).
It took four years to open the park and we are
continuing our Centennial Events into 2021.
Brant Venables and Trustee Sherene Baugher
previewed new Centennial Exhibit Projects at the
recent Annual Meeting. Please visit the Friends of
Robert H Treman State Park for information.
