Open House at the Town’s Public Works Facility
Tentatively set for Saturday, September 18th 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
This will be an opportunity to tour our renovated facility, learn more about the services provided
by our Public Works department and explore our equipment (you might even be able to climb
into a truck used for snow plowing or a mini excavator). Bring the family. We will have COVID-
19 safety procedures in place. Look for more information on our website and in our September
newsletter.
TOWN UPDATES GREENHOUSE GAS INVENTORY FOR GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS
Earlier this year, the Town Board adopted a Greenhouse Gas Inventory for Government
Operations, an update to the Town’s 2009 inventory. The report shows that the Town emitted
2,085 metric tons of CO2 equivalent in 2019, meeting its goal of reducing GHG emissions by
30%. The new inventory features two new items: it accounts for carbon sequestered by tree cover
on Town land (the equivalent of about 30% of government emissions) and it uses an emerging
methodology to more accurately account for methane emissions. The GHG inventory is available
at: http://www.town.ithaca.ny.us/sustainability#TOC-Town-Sustainability-Documents.

CONSERVATION BOARD SEEKS NEW BOARD MEMBERS
The quality of life in our community is directly connected to our natural environment. This past
year has provided an opportunity for us to discover or rediscover how rich we are with
biological, ecological, geological, and scenic resources. The Town of Ithaca Conservation Board
is looking for several residents with a passion for conservation, recreation, or education to join
their efforts to safeguard and promote our natural and scenic resources for all. The board engages
both the Town Board and the Planning Board to make sure our community's environmental
concerns are heard. Their meetings are on the first Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 7:00 pm
at the Ithaca Town Hall or virtually by Zoom. If you are interested in proposed development
projects, deer management, invasive species education, water quality, waste awareness, scenic
resources, or other conservation concerns, please join any meeting (all are open to the public).
For more information about the Town of Ithaca Conservation Board and their current activities,
visit the website www.town.ithaca.ny.us/conservation-board or
Facebook at www.facebook.com/IthacaConservationBoard, or
join any monthly meeting (all are open to the public).
Please contact Michael Smith, Senior Planner, at 607-273-1747 or msmith@town.ithaca.ny.us
with any questions.
