RE: Apartment in your home
Dear Mr. Oltenacu:
On February 14, 2005 I visited your two-family home at 11 Dove Drive. The purpose of my visit was to confirm that
the basement apartment located in your home is not being occupied as a dwelling unit (apartment). Your desire is to reduce
your tax burden, as the residence is currently being used as a single-family dwelling.
My visit revealed that you are using the apartment space for yourself. During my visit I gave you a Town prepared
affidavit, which I am asking you to sign, have notarized, and file with the Tompkins County Clerk in miscellaneous records
and referenced against your property's deed. A copy of the notarized affidavit, along with a receipt of filing with the
County, needs to be given to this office. This process will enable the Town to accept your home use as a single-family
residence, providing you with some tax relief (water, sewer, and solid waste fees); while helping to ensure that any future
owner of your property will pay the proper taxes according to however they may use it in the future.
