ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS MINUTES
JUNE 39 1963
A meeting of the Town of Ithaca Zoning Board
of Appeals was held _at the Town Highway Building on Monday ,
June 3 , 1963 at 5 : 15 P . M .
Members of the Board present were : Chairman
David F . Powers , Robert N . Powers , William B . Norton ,
William S . Scott , Roger Sovocool .
Others present were . Zoning Officer Robert J .
Wells , Mr . Joseph Motsay , Mr . Franklin , Mr . and Mrs . Hartwig ,
Mr . W . Reyriolds , Mr . E . Austin , Mrs . Chandler , and Kr' . and
Mrs . Newman .
This is an appeal signed by Joseph Motsay for a
variance in regard to the decision of the Zoning Officer
denying permission to erect a house on a 120 foot lot at
206 DuBoise Woad . Permit was denied under Article V , Section
23 of the Town of Ithaca Zoning Ordinance . Proof of
publication was presented .
Letters from Mr . Rummell and Mr . Dengler were
read to the Board and filed .
Mr . and Mrs . Hartwig stated that they were
opposed to the 120 foot lot on the basis that the Zoning. .
Ordinance requires 150 feet . There are septic tank and
water problems on lots of less . than the required feet .
The large lots are characteristic of the neighborhood and
desirable for the future . They fear that permitting this
variance will set a precedent .
Mr . and Mrs . Newman stated that they feel
the same as the Hartwigs .
Mr . Austin said that there was poor drainage
in the area and he would not like to see undersized lots
developed next to him . He feels much the same as the Hartwigs .
Mr . Reynolds said that they have poor drainage .
Mt . Newman ' s lot was very wet yesterday .
Mr . Franklin stated that the driveway would be
on the edge of the lot and there would be a hedge . The north
end of the garage would be about 30 feet from the lot line .
After a brief recess , the motion was made by
David Powers and seconded by Roger Sovocool that the variance
applied for be denied because there has been nD hardship shown
and plans have not been presented to and approved by the Planning
Board as required by sub =division regulations as set up by Town
Law . Carried .
Meeting adjourned at 6 : 00 P . M .
