The meeting of the Town of Ithaca Zoning Board of Appeals was held at the Town Highway Barn , Elmira Road , October 3 , 1960 at .7 : 30 P . M . It was duly publicized in the ITHACA JOURNAL on September 28 , 1960 . Members of -thee Board present were : Chairman William Rolston , David Powers , and Aldus Fogelsanger . Others present were : Mr . Robert Wells and Ben Boynton . Present to present the application was Miss Isabell Thomas , neighbor of 332 Forest Home Drive , who is executrix of the estate owning the property . This is an appeal signed by William Mitchell from the decision of the Zoning -Officer denying permission for the extension of a non- conforming residence at 340 Forest Home Drive . The permit was denied by the Zoning Officer under Section 54 , - Article XII , of the Zoning Ordinance . The application is for a one story , one room addition of about 100 square feet to the front of the 'house . This is a residential zone and the addition is non- conforming in that it is too close to the Forest Home Drive road . Part of the existing house is now 15 feet from the road and all of the proposed addition will be slightly farther from the road than 15 feet . The room will be used to store clothing . The addition will be in conformance with the existing construction . The side yard clearance is okay . There is no space behind the existing structure for the addition because of a creek . It was stated that neighbors did not object and no one was present to make any statements about the case . This would not alter the character of the neighborhood . The Board voted unanimously to grant the appeal . The next case was the appeal . of Rev . H . Ecklemann . Proof of publication was presented . Present were : Rev . H . 3 ® Ecklemann ; Peter Gerard ; Donald McMurray , 514 Warren Road ; J . We Driscoll , 115 Christopher Circle ; Ralph Bacon , 509 Warren Road . The appeal is by Rev . H . Ecklemann , Christopher Circle , for the erection of signs in the area of Warren and Hanshaw Roads for the purpose of the direction of the public to the Place of Worship ( Rev . Ecklemann ' s home ) . e Permit was denied by the Zoning Officer under Section 9 , Article IV , of the Zoning Ordinance to wit : " . . . provided that such signs shall be on the lot . " Section 11 and 12 of the same article are also involved . Rev . Ecklemann wants to erect signs 18 " x 24 " and an arrow at the corner of Warren and Hanshaw Roads to direct strangers to the Church ; also at the corner of Warren : :.and Christopher Circle , Christopher Circle is a dead - end street and people normally do not get to Chris - topher Circle unless directed there , so just a sign on the property would not be useful in attracting people . About 24 adults attend the Church meetings at present . He thinks his Church needs a sign as much as the Airport needs one . Peter Gerard spoke in favor of the signs with no new arguments . He is a Church member and does not live close . Don McMurray called eight neighbors to get their reactions . One was non- commital ; one had no objections , the other six did not like the permission of signs and that the permission of signs was a bad precedent to start . J . . W . Driscoll thought signs were not necessary since there is already a street marker designating Chris - topher Circle . He thinks there is not enough parking for church-goers cars . Ralph Bacon does not want signs - thinks the members should find the Church without signs . The Board has had trouble about signs in this neighborhood in the past ; due to this and the opposition of those neighbors present , the appeal .. was unanimously denied . Respectfully submitted , Aldus Fogelsanger , Secretary Pro Tem . o
